NY 10 Panorama |
Description: |
I must have climbed up on one of the yard buildings or something to get this-try doing that nowadays!! This overhead view shows the NY 10 that had been waiting at QD behind a pair of ST units, now with the NYSW power on and ready to back out onto the Tier at QD for the trip east. It also shows the scenic beauty of the Southern Tier, which on a nice day can be really appealing. Its a truly beautiful place when its not raining. We're looking south from Bevier St(the actual street, not just the yard). The overpass is I 81/NY 17; the hills beyond are south of the Susquehanna River. In the right place, they afford a stunning view of downtown, or Vestal, depending on where you are. |

A westbound D&H train, with NYSW power now in charge, since Guilford put the D&H in bankruptcy and took all their power back to the B&M, rolls west at Owego as Conrail's WEEL 39 works down by the Ward & Van Scoy feed mill. NYSW SD's would become a common sight over the next several years. |

SLN 4 sits at QD after arriving from Buffalo. It will get an NYSW crew here for the remainder of the trip to Little Ferry. This is probably not 6542s first trip to Binghamton. BN power ran through on EL for several years, and their SD 45s were frequent visitors. |

East with a little help |
Description: |
A pair of NYSW units have this NY 10 rolling past the shop, along with a pair of CSX units to get the train over the road. This was typical at the time, and some really interesting power mixes could be seen most days. The light was getting pretty bad-the legendary Binghamton gloom was yielding to night-but I'd alway take the shot. |

This PYRP is rolling north long hood forward, hard enough with a regular radiator, more so in an SD 45. You have to admit, this is an odd looking consist. My guess is, 3638 had a problem that prevented it from leading, so the power was swapped, and there were no other ready units. |
