Good looking power |
Description: |
Once the NYSW decided to paint their power, they put together some good looking consists. This SLN 5 has just pulled up to QD, and now that the rear of the train has cleared BD, it will back its 50 platforms and 4 freight into the D&H yard to change power and crews and roll for Buffalo. The power, an SD 45/F 45/SD 45 set, looks good in yellowjacket paint. |

F 45 roster |
Description: |
East Binghamton under NYSW was largely an open house. As long as you didnt do anything stupid, and stayed out of the way, you were unofficially welcome to come down and shoot all the photos you wanted. I made the most of this sunny day in December 1988, getting this roster shot of a set of 45s, led by one of the Fs. |

The house at GR, the north end of the siding that started at Nineveh Jct, was always a pretty place to take a train photo. The homeowners have not disappointed today, with an array of pumpkins and a colorful stand of maples to highlight the passing of a set of yellowjackets on this northbound coal train. |

Busy place |
Description: |
Despite not being nearly the busy place it was during EL years, there were times in the late 80s and early 90s when there could be quite a bit of action. Today we have some of it as a BUAB with NYSW and D&H power holds track 2, waiting to crossover and take the Buffalo Runner at QD, while a ballast train heads for tie up on the DLW main. |

Ayres Rd |
Description: |
The other end, not the one youre familiar with. The Tioga Center semaphores were at the east end of Ayres Rd. The west end once crossed the tracks on the bridge seen here, but the bridge was closed in the late 80s when it needed significant repair. The Erie had build a number of these bridges over local roads, but never really did much to maintain them. Once they became deficient, there was a lot of finger pointing with the county or town over whose responsibility it was to fix it. Since no one wanted to spend the money-and Conrail surely wasnt-most of them were closed. It would have made a good place to shoot pictures from had the deck not been removed. |

SU 100 |
Description: |
SU 100 was the trackage rights train that started it all. When NYSW got the ex DLW Syracuse and Utica lines in 1982, they negotiated trackage rights from Passaic Jct to Binghamton over Conrail to move cars from one part of the operation to the other. Those trains were symbolled SU 99 west and SU 100 east. This SU 100 is getting ready to roll to Jersey with the usual non stack traffic. There must not have been an eastbound stack that day; NYSW usually added cars at Binghamton to any stacks going to Jersey. |
