Eight units!! |
Description: |
The full complement of power is now visible on the 261. Some of these units must be a power balancing move, since the unit trains are heavier going south, and DPUs sometimes get cut at Heavener, or Shreveport. For the second time in as many weeks, the 261 has eight units, more than needed for what is admittedly a big train, 90 freight, 34 autos, and two articulated racks. |

Working hard |
Description: |
The days following the departure of the C 628s marked a move toward four axle power, most of it hand me downs from LV and Reading, mostly GP 38s and 39s, but also a group of C 420s from LV. D&H did get some of its own power, among them a dozen U 23Bs, one of which is leading this northbound coal train on Richmondville hill. These units would ultimately wind up on Maine Central during the Guilford era, along with the 1976 GP 39-2s. |

Two out of three aint bad |
Description: |
The oil train was headed south, the lead power under the US 412 overpass, and not photographable, so I did the next best thing, and went to Tahlequah St to get the meet with the impending northbound, which we see approaching here, The grain train, an empty northbound, was just hitting the detector at Davidson Rd, 2 miles to the north, as I pulled up to get the first shot of this series. So I was able to get two of the three trains in this three way meet. |

Low water |
Description: |
The next spot was along Butler Creek just south of Noel, where he ran next to the low water crossing that makes for a good shooting location. Hell meet a southbound TXUX train here in the siding, just to the north. |

Clear shot |
Description: |
The next clear shot I was able to get was at Gravette, due to the pacers along Ark 59 slowing the chase. Still a decent shot for late morning. |
