Spring!!
Title:  Spring!!
Description:  We were on our way to breakfast in Gentry, taking Davidson Rd across to Ark 59, so I could check the signal. As we cross the tracks, lo and behold, it;s green. Good, something coming. Seven minutes later, we hear a horn, then a moment later, this southbound grain train rolls into view. The trees are starting to bloom, and it was nice to get one or two in the photo.

Almost 20 years old
Title:  Almost 20 years old
Description:  KCS acquired a large group of these cars painted in the "Retro Belle" scheme in 2007, around the same time as Mike Haverty introduced the Belle scheme on new locomotives. They were intended to run together, which they did for a while. After a while, the Retro Belle cars became free runners, and now you rarely see them in any kind of unit train. This one was solo on a southbound at Davidson Rd, just north of Siloam Springs

UP car
Title:  UP car
Description:  Another version of UPs livery, this time with smaller numerals. Most of the time, these trains are solid AEPX cars. This one had a good number of UP cars in the consist, suggesting some of the AEPX cars were out of the set for maintenance.

Interesting reporting mark
Title:  Interesting reporting mark
Description:  This car was in a southbound AEPX train. The CTRN initials are for the Central of Tennessee Railway and Navigation Co, interestingly, a UP owned mark. I've never seen these initials that I can recall. May be a holdover of a long ago subsidiary, and possibly a trademark thing, since UP has shown a predilection for preserving their reporting marks to maintain the trademarks.

Storage unit
Title:  Storage unit
Description:  Or, how we did things before PODs. This car has been on this property as long as I can remember-Ive lived in town for 16 years-but only recently did the home owner clear off the brush to reveal enough of the car to merit a photo. Hard to tell what road it was from-the paint is faded to almost gone-but it may have been CNW. In a yard along Country Club Rd.

Not looking good
Title:  Not looking good
Description:  The boxcar that was being used as a storage shed at this house in Siloam Springs-see photos from Nov 22 and Nov 23- has been pushed onto its side. Any time Ive seen a car toppled like this, its usually a sign that it will be cut up fairly soon. This car was only recently tipped, in the last few weeks.

Yard box
Title:  Yard box
Description:  Boxcars have been used as storage units as long as there have been box cars. This one is in a yard in Siloam Springs. Ive shot it before, from a more end-on angle. The sun was good this day for a broadside view of this ex CNW 60 foot box. Too bad the car number is eroded off.

Cant fight city hall
Title:  Cant fight city hall
Description:  But you can take a photo of a train passing it. The grain train rolls past the old KCS station at Anderson, one of a number of them preserved either as museums, or as this one, and the one in Noel, now a municipal building. The area here has been cleaned up quite a bit since I last did this shot some years ago. Looks much nicer. The single unit works well here, too; two would also be manageable. More than that, and you don't get the whole consist. Now just need to get a clean unit leading here.

A quick change of shoes-I wear this boot on my right foot now, to combat a condition called charcot-and off I went.
