Grain to Albany |
Description: |
One of the irregular but frequent trains was BUAB, a loaded grain train that went to the Port of Albany to be loaded on ships for export. One of those trains reflects the late afternoon sun as it passes Hiawatha Rd on its way to Binghamton and a crew change with 84 cars to go north. |

Engine terminal |
Description: |
There was a small trailer park on Conklin Road, almost adjacent to the CP engine house. Sometimes you could get a shot here if mothing was parked on the runners, such as on this day. A wide variety of equipment could be seen. Todays view has a PLM unit, a few CP units, a D&H lightning stripe GP 38-2, and a leftover from steam days, an old tender. whose purpose I do not now recall. The ex DLW yard tower can be seen at far left. |

Back to New York |
Description: |
After running on the PA side since Narrowsburg, a necessity due to the lack of places to site a right of way on the NY side for the Erie at the time it was built, NTV 4 crosses the well know Mill Rift bridge across the Delaware, landing it back in NY at Sparrow Bush. It will shortly be in Port Jervis. |

Deep in the gorge |
Description: |
In some places, the valley is 1000 feet from the river to ridge top. This is one such place, just west of West Cameron, where there is not room for tracks and road on the river bank. The road was built on the other side of the river at this point. From that location we see 270 roll east beyond a field of hay bales. |

On the fast track |
Description: |
The Southern Tier Line west of Hornell was double track to CP River, roughly where the old NT tower was on EL, where the River Line to Olean split from the Buffalo Sub. Under Conrail, it had a dual personality. Track 1 was fairly well maintained, and good for track speed of 40 MPH. Track 2, on the other hand, was not. It had about 10 miles of 25 MPH running, the rest 10 MPH. It was jokingly referred to as the "D&H Main," since dispatchers faced with a choice of running a D&H train on track 1, or a Conrail train, would send the D&H train down track 2, making for a long trip to Hornell. Train 270 had good luck this day, and got the fast track. Seen here passing the semaphore pole-about 7 cars from the head end, on the left-at Hunt with 11 intermodal and 36 freight. |
