If a train was going fast enough, or I got stuck behind some slowpoke-its amazing the number of people who drive like they just dont care if they ever get where theyre going-I usually could not beat a train to downtown Waverly with its model railroad like buildings. So I had to go with other options. In this case, I grabbed the shot from about where the Tier crossed over the Ithaca Secondary, the former LV main. A SOO unit heading into the sun with a big train(99 freight, and 56 stack platforms) looks good in the late afternoon |

Barn on the bridge |
Description: |
A CP red barn leads train 165 over the high bridge and Wylie Creek with 94 cars. The D&H was noted in its later years for having a multitude of paint schemes, so much so that it was hard to find a train with a matched set of power. It was perhaps fitting that CP should take them over; they did not seem to match the sets either-this train has three units, three paint schemes. Or is it the D&H influence on CP that's showing?? |

Slow start |
Description: |
Train 413 rolls through the location of old BX cabin at the south end of Bevier St, passing the Agway mill as it gets started toward Oneonta and Mohawk. Its a slow drag here, as the trains 63 cars are stretched around a tight curve, the rear still passing through BD. Its a hard start for a tough climb. |

Climbing |
Description: |
413 has a good roll on as it climbs toward Belden tunnel. It will need whatever momentum it has, since the climb stiffens considerably in a mile or so. |

Four 40s pulling hard |
Description: |
Train 253s SDs are pulling hard as they struggle toward Belden Tunnel. This was mostly a merchandise train to St Luc, and it was typically maxing out its tonnage ratings. Fortunately, another ten minutes, and it will be downhill into Afton. |
