Still smoking
Title:  Still smoking
Description:  NYSW 3000 pushes its transfer cars from CP into its own yard at BX at the south end of Bevier St, doing what Alcos do. Conrail and D&H both have customers in this part of town. Cars on the right have been pushed through the Agway mill, and will be pulled, probably the next day. There is a hopper at the mill on the D&H side of the yard, visible to the left of the NYSW unit.

Remember those??
Title:  Remember those??
Description:  By 1990, the cost, availability, and ease of use had gotten to the point with consumer video equipment that it was no longer the preserve of high tech professionals, and just about anyone with a couple of bucks could get one and use it effectively. The result was, they were everywhere. This one is set up to catch the U&MV trip here at Whitney Point while its owner shoots film. Who would have imagined then that wed be taking video on our phones??

BH 1 on the Cortland side
Title:  BH 1 on the Cortland side
Description:  Getting a train on the Syracuse Branch during this era was something of a challenge. Conrail retained the line as far as Jamesvillem south of Syacuse, to serve a stone quarry, and was not willing to sell it to NYSW. As a result, the Suskie had only local business on it, which was served roughly twice a week. At the time, the Utica Branch was the more viable line, with almost daily service. So it was a catch to find a train running here. I got lucky this day, getting C 430 3000 rolling into Cortland.

Description:  It was deep snow and deep cold this day in January, temperatures in the teens, as was the depth of the snow pack. Does that keep me in?? Dont be silly. There are trains to chase. In this case, its BH 1 with a three builder consist, heading north up the connection from the D&H that was built as part of the Bevier St improvement, where the D&H bridges were raised to allow standard 136" trailers, and the ex DLW bridge used by the NYSW was removed in favor of the new connection.

Title:  By the office
Description:  Power off SLN 3 sits outside the engine house in Binghamton waiting for the next eastbound. The F 45 is still to be renumbered 3636, and the two SD's trailing it are still to be given the yellow jacket scheme. They'll eventually wind up back on the BN, only this time under MRL ownership. There's one peeking out of the house too.

It will change power here to D&H units and continue toward Buffalo later in the day. SLN 4 is waiting beyond the signal on the double track, and will go east behind three freshly painted SD 45's once SLN 5 is past.
