Description:  BH 1 crosses the Chenango River the day after a 12" snowfall. Its the first train across, and its knocking the snow into the river. The consist was typical at the time-one engine from everyone.

Deep cold
Title:  Deep cold
Description:  It was deep snow and deep cold this day in January, temperatures in the teens, as was the depth of the snow pack. Does that keep me in?? Dont be silly. There are trains to chase. In this case, its BH 1 with a three builder consist, heading north up the connection from the D&H that was built as part of the Bevier St improvement, where the D&H bridges were raised to allow standard 136" trailers, and the ex DLW bridge used by the NYSW was removed in favor of the new connection.

Title:  Meet at BD
Description:  Eastbound 270 behind SOO power is about to meet the NYSW Sea Land train that is about to change crews and head for Buffalo. The 270 will head into East Binghamton across the river, get switched, and then roll north to Mohawk. This photos shows part of the layout at BD. The tracks to the left are the former DLW main, with the line going across to the Court St overpass and under SLN5 is the former DLW Syracuse and Utica line, now used by CP to get to the D&H.&Conrail ownership of what had been tracks 3(farthest) and 4(closest to the camera) started here. They were, respectivelt, the 2 and 1 running tracks on the CP, leading over the Susquehanna Riwer to their East Binghamton yard, a former DLW facility. Conrail had redisgnated tracks 3 and 4 to the Johnson Runnng Track and DL 4 respectively bhy this time.

Description:  Walter Rich put out a directive when the NYSW started running the D&H that NYSW painted units were to lead wherever practicable. Description:  Six NYSW units lead what looks like a KL 1, but was called MEBU on the radio. There were probably not enough cars to run the trains separately-the car count was 73 on this train-so they were combined, saving a crew start. We see the train near the Tioga County transfer station, about where the LV Auburn Branch ducked under the EL. Two of the original four B40's are on this train.

Description:  But today. ABBU with the first two SOO units to come to the D&H had just passed westbound, and we were all running to our cars to get on with the chase when we heard the horn. BUME rolls through the semaphores behind a mix of NYSW and CP power. It's a horrible angle for the train, but it does a good job of showing the lenses in the semaphore blades.
