NY 10 Panorama
Title:  NY 10 Panorama
Description:  I must have climbed up on one of the yard buildings or something to get this-try doing that nowadays!! This overhead view shows the NY 10 that had been waiting at QD behind a pair of ST units, now with the NYSW power on and ready to back out onto the Tier at QD for the trip east. It also shows the scenic beauty of the Southern Tier, which on a nice day can be really appealing. Its a truly beautiful place when its not raining. We're looking south from Bevier St(the actual street, not just the yard). The overpass is I 81/NY 17; the hills beyond are south of the Susquehanna River. In the right place, they afford a stunning view of downtown, or Vestal, depending on where you are.

Waiting for the new crew
Title:  Waiting for the new crew
Description:  NY 10 is pulled up into Bevier St yard awaiting a new crew for the final leg to Jersey. Conrail will not let the D&H/NYSW stacks change crews on their main, so they have to pull into either the D&H yard at East Binghamton, or onto the Buffalo Runner and the Utica Branch. When the new crew is on, they will back the train out onto CR at QD, then head east.

Past the LV connection
Title:  Past the LV connection
Description:  Years ago, the DLW, and later the EL, crossed the Lehigh Valley branch from Freeville up toward Truxton here in Cortland. The line was abandoned at Conrail startup, though there was a short segment with a lumber yard still served by rail. The NYSW still went there at this time. I am standing on the connecting track to the LV as we watch BH 1 go south. How about that MP box with the eagle and buzz saw herald??
