Description:  The semaphore at Waverly was on a mast, and at one time hosted a warning light for a hot box detector a few miles to the west on track 2-note the pole sticking straight down below the signal. The signal on the track 1 was unfortunately a tri light unit, so no twin semaphores here. It was still a good shot as we see 270 rolling east behind an SD40 mix with 23 cars.

Description:  The 891 symbol was an empty coal train, though you would not know it from this shot. The train rolls west coming into Owego with CSX power and a mixed consits. My guess is CP added some freight to the train to fill out tonnage and save a train start. This train has 116 cars behind its four SDs.

Description:  The 891 train rolls west on the Tier at Goodrich Settlement, a small community just west of Owego. The track in the foreground is the former LV Auburn Branch, now just a long tail track on the Owego & Harford. It ends abruptly about 1/2 mile behind me, the right of way abandoned from there to the LV yard in Sayre. Twenty years prior to this photo, you could see LV Alcos and D&H Sharks here.

Description:  This is not the Mills Job, which usuaoly handles the task of interchanging gas cars with the Owego & Harford. Today the honor goes to the 891 train, an empty coal train going to Buffalo and onto the NS. This is not its usual assignment. It was interesting to watch a set of six axle power take the O&H connecting track and yard. Im sure the crew was holding their breath the entire time.

Description:  Dad, as I have mentioned, was not a railfan, so did not go after the trains as I would have. Nonetheless, once in a while he nailed one. This mid train helper set was going past a restaurant where dad and his wife were having dinner. Description:  There was a semaphore on track 2, 245-2, that you had to cross a field to reach. As a result, I did not shoot it much. Heres a from the road look as 391 passes, the board seen between the two diesels.

Description:  There were a lot of Erie semaphores still in service at the time. This is the third one I shot this train with that day. The pipe hanging down from the signal was for the hot box detector indicator light, now removed since new radio alarm detectors had been installed a couple years before.

Title:  Arriving from Jersey
Description:  Train 255, the Saturday Sea Land train originating at Little Ferry as SLN 5 on the NYSW, rolls through BD as it approaches the NYSW office for a crew change as the faithful observe from trackside. This was a pretty reliable late morniing arrival at Binghamton, and I will spend several hours following this train west. By this time, CP power running through to Jersey was pretty common. Today's power set is an interesting mix of hand me downs. The leader is an ex GATX leaser that came from MP originally; the second unit is an ex Greater Winnipeg Water District unit; the SOO unit is original to the road, the only such on today's train; and the trailing unit is an ex KCS unit. We got lucky today, as two of the used units have been repainted, making for a much more attractive train. The Dicks Sporting Goods store is the original one in the chain and is still open there.
