Past the signals
Title:  Past the signals
Description:  The semaphore at Waverly was on a mast, and at one time hosted a warning light for a hot box detector a few miles to the west on track 2-note the pole sticking straight down below the signal. The signal on the track 1 was unfortunately a tri light unit, so no twin semaphores here. It was still a good shot as we see 270 rolling east behind an SD40 mix with 23 cars.

Title:  270 at the end of the day
Description:  Usually 270 ran mid to late morning. Todays effort is behind, getting through Endicott in the late afternoon. It was worth the wait, thats an interesting power set. Today's train has 60 freight and 11 TOFC tacked on behind. Check out the Shawmut hoppers behind the power. They were a fairly common sight on the Tier in those days.

Description:  I like to put railroad lineside items in my photos; mileposts are always a good prop. MP 216 is on the Tier where in Johnson Cit}, down off a back street. Almost all the mileposts on the Tier are the ex Erie concrete markers that show JC on them, signifying Jersey City. NS has replaced many in the process of single tracking the line. Description:  Prior to CP taking over, when the D&H used letter codes, this train wa MEBU, and often ran the Buffalo Runner to the Southern Tier, bypassing the yard. CP worked it more often than not, so we have the incongruity of a westbound going east(or south) into the yard. Here it is behind three GATX units, two of which-the yellow ones-would eventually be bought by CP. Todays train has 86 cars.

Description:  On the KCS, where they dont get a lot of snow, the white did not have the issue with blending into its surroundings. On the D&H, well, that was a different story. Three ex KCS units lead a westbound 271 toward the yard at BX, doing a good job of blending in to their environment.

Description:  These are not the stacks you are looking for. A solo GATX unit has train 252, about to become HAN 2 when the NYSW crew takes over, at QD. I don't recall if the Suskie added power to this train. If not, it was a long night on the Delaware Division for the crew.

Description:  Train 554 usually got CP power, often Alcos; GATX units on this train were really uncommon. Todays train has a pair of GATX lease units, which almost never happened. They are seen here at Phelps St in Port Dickinson bringing 5 stack platforms and 25 TOFC in from Montreal.

Golden glow
Title:  Golden glow
Description:  I was headed to work one morning, came down the hill from my house to find this 253 going past Campville. I beat it to the straightaway from MP 231 to 232, and was able to get it coming out of the sun as it passed signa; 231-1. Kinda artsy, but I like it.
