Description:  Binghamton was the rain capital of the northeast, or so it seems. There were two weather conditions there: raining, and going to rain. Here we are in the rain alon` US 11 near the Kirkwood water plant as a motley mix of power that only NYSW could concoct rolls SLN5 west to a CP recrew at Binghamton with 150 platforms.

Description:  Though CPs GE units had started to show up on the D&H proper sporadically by this time, seeing one on the Tier was uncommon. This one leads Toronto bound 167 east of Waverly where Erie once had a center siding-note the wide track spacing.

Plenty of power
Title:  Plenty of power
Description:  Train 557 gets underway from East Binghamton with more than enough power to get its 27 COFC and 6 freight to Buffalo. Note the bridge pier being poured at the far right. The new Conklin Av overpass is being built to replace the ancient steel bridge the train is passing under. The new overpass will have a much more gentle S curve, to the relief of many motorists. This location is known locally as Holmes Crossing.

Title:  A little higher, a lot snowier
Description:  Train 413 ascends toward Belden Tunnel, now at Depot Hill Rd in Port Crane, several hundred feet higher than Port Dick. The snow tends to get heavier with elevation, and the train is now into a good squall, which will only get more intense as it reaches the almost 1400 foot elevation at the summit.

Description:  From my house in Campville, I could usually hear eastbounds blowing for the crossings on the east side of Owego, making it possible to get to Kinney Rd for a shot. The view was well lit-when the sun was out-and the hillside in the background made a nice backdrop. We see train 166 rolling east behind a SOO leader.

Description:  At one time, this location was BX tower, where the D&H crossed the DLW Syracuse & Utica lines. Its been modified quite a bit since then-the ex DLW is now a switching lead for the fzed plant, and the DLW YO yard is long gone. Even the D&H Bevier St yard is a shadow of itself. Train 413 starts north to Montreal, passing the Agway plant here with 73 cars.
