Description: |
A trip ran with Blue Mountain & Reading 425 in August 1986. There was no place to turn 425 at Port Jervis, so the steam engine was pulled off at Campbell Hall and run around the wye there. The M&E power here took the train into Port Jervis, where the 425 was reacoupled after backing to Port Jervis. Here a couple watches the M&E power roll the train toward Otisville tunnel. |

Waiting for clearance |
Description: |
NYSW 3000 waits for clearance on the Buffalo Runner so it can get the train into the yard to drop off. Alongside me on top of this hopper was JJ Young. He was in his early 60's then, I was 30. He went up the ladder faster than I did. |

Almost ready |
Description: |
NYSW 3000 waits for a few more riders to get on board, then will make another trip down to Marathon. The crossing tower is still up as I post this. The tower from the station is also seen at left. |

Big crowd |
Description: |
The Maple Festival always drew a big crowd, many more people that the small town was normally able to accommodate. The train was a good way for people to come down from Cortland, as parking was at a premium. The Cortland County Sheriff even had deputies out to direct traffic, as we see here by the station. Note the heavy coats. The temperature was only in the 30's, not uncommon for that time of year. At least the sun was out. Some years it snowed. |

Unlikely meet |
Description: |
Anywhere else, this would be impossible. In Binghamton, its a daily event. OIBU passes a C 430 as it slows to work the yard here. Only 16 C 430s were built. At one point, NYSW had five of them. |
