Description:  No, this is not the head end. This Flint Creek train ran 2x3, so this is the DPU pushing into the power plant spur with this attractive set of units on a gloomy day. This shot would not have been possible on a sunny day, the light would have been all wrong. The Heavener Sub main is to the left.

Description:  The H train has pulled down for headroom as it works the Watts yard, coming around the hard curve south of South Watts. A tele lens brings in the hillside behind the train, as if to drive home the point that Oklahoma aint all flat. Theres a reason there are DPUs on most trains here.

Description:  The DPU rolls into the shadows created by the tunnel of trees on this late Saturday afternoon on its way south. Meanwhile, the northbound is slowly pulling away toward Stilwell. It will hold south of town as another TXUX train followed by the 262, hold north of town, where the northbound will meet both. The light will go before they are in position for a photo. Such is the life of a railfan on a chase.

Description:  An 81 car northbound train of covered hoppers rolls toward Kansas City and more corn. The Belle scheme was making serious inroads to the fleet at this time, but most of the existing fleet was still gray. Seemed ever time I'd see a train with Belles, there would be a gray unit leading. It's only in the last two years or so that the AC44's have been getting repainted, while it seems most of the SD 70's have been done.

Description:  Todays surprise was a southbound H train coming in to meet the northbound counterpart at Siloam. I had caught the northbound coming into town, and he was stopped in the siding. I ran up to Davidson Rd to catch this train, and got a surprise. CP power is not uncommon on the KCS, though it almost always is seen on unit oil trains headed for the Gulf Coast. Catching it leading the H train was unusual.

Description:  During the years prior to the KCS getting dozens of new diesels, there was a motley assortment of older power, some KCS, some hand me down. We see a southbound approaching Lincoln Av with some of each. A pair of consecutively numbered Belles are in the lead, with a pair of ex TFM units, consecutively numbered SDP40s in different paint schemes trailing on this Q train with 50 freight and 10 stacks in tow.

Description:  A good photo location is alongside Ark 59, just north of where it passes under Ark 102. Theres a nice long S curve there thats reasonably open, and makes a good morning shot. I was able to catch this southbound grain train a bit later in the day, the light working due to the overcast. The snow helped, and this shot made a good Christmas card.

Title:  Belles in the snow
Description:  We were out on this snowy day chasing-which we did in NY all the time, since it snowed A LOT there, so no big deal to go out in the little bit of snow we get in Arkansas. One of the prizes that day was this southbound we caught near Sulphur Springs behind a pair of new Belles, which was a big deal at the time.
