No feed for these horses
Title:  No feed for these horses
Description:  A southbound grain train rolls past Shockeys farm south of Watts, its sign advertising their quarter horses. The sign is down while US 59 is widened to four lanes. Hopefully it goes back up when the project is complete in a couple of months. It made a nice photo prop.

Approaching town
Title:  Approaching town
Description:  The southbound grain train rolls around the curve as it hits the tangent through Stilwell. This shot is not possible now(Sep 2016) due to the shrubbery growing big enough to obscure the trains.

Five grays
Title:  Five grays
Description:  With all the attention given to the new Belle scheme, its easy to overlook that the gray units are slowly disappearing. One has to remember, this was considered a great improvement over the white dip that KCS used for so long. This southbound H reain has picked up the local power at Watts for a trip to Heavener for servicing, making for five gray units, a sight that has become unusual.

Barren Creek
Title:  Barren Creek
Description:  A northbound empty grain train rolls across the Barren Creek bridge. Oklahoma DOT cleared out most of the brush between the railroad and adjacent US 59 as part of a project that will see US 59 become a 4 lane from just north of Watts, where the 4 lane presently ends, to Westville, opening up this view, among many others.

Dodging the shadows
Title:  Dodging the shadows
Description:  The shadows get long on the KCS due to a ridge to the west of the railroad. Fortunately there are places the sun still hits til late, such as this near MP 239. KS 4787 and four other units roll 105 empty grain hoppers north. They will meet a southbound at Watts.

Pastoral scene
Title:  Pastoral scene
Description:  An empty grain train rolls north past so future dinners. I took this from the shoulder of US 59 soon be "old" 59. The new 4 lane right of way is visible in the foreground. When its completed, it will take the thrill out of this location-no more dodging feed trucks at 65 MPH.
