By the barn #2
Title:  By the barn #2
Description:  I waited on the coal train, now taking a position up on the old US 59 alignment, now a local road. It gave me a more panoramic view of the area than the shot from the new US 59 shoulder. The pair of EMDs has 123 cars of Texas bound coal in hand, passing the familiar hay bales.

On Baron Fork Creek
Title:  On Baron Fork Creek
Description:  As usual, I got right out of Baron and headed to the spot where US 59 and the KCS crossed Baron Fork Creek. I typically have enough time to set up the shot, and today was no exception. Two CP units and the BNSF unit the train came with enter the through truss.

Done for the day
Title:  Done for the day
Description:  The clouds were moving in, and there was no meet here. Time to head home. I like it better when there's a meet here, as it gives me another train to follow home, but it's not in the cards today. It was a good chase.

First encounter
Title:  First encounter
Description:  Wed just come back from Wal Mart, and in the process of unloading the weeks goodies, I heard a horn. I quickly got the stuff in the house and took off. Turned out what I thought was a northbound wasnt, but I sometimes dont catch up to them right away, since the northbounds are usually lighter trains, and can get a good roll on. So, I went to Decatur, hoping that was the case, and Id catch it. When I got to Decatur, the signal was lit green for a southbound. Ill take it. At least I didnt waste the trip. A KCS Belle leads 125 cars of grain south.

Taking advantage
Title:  Taking advantage
Description:  The line through Decatur is on a steep grade going south, so its usually not much of a challenge to get ahead of a train. I got about a mile south of the prevous spot downtown to get this more scenic shot across a pasture. Pretty sky

DPU
Title:  DPU
Description:  In the CPKC regime, the operating plan has moved to mid train DPUs, and its become common to see them on grain and mineral trains. The 4111 was 61 cars deep in the 125 car train. We saw it as a DPU on a coal train back in January-see the Snow Days album-and it was dirty then. Doesnt look like its had a bath since that day.

Title:  Not quite

Making the grade
Title:  Making the grade
Description:  Theres another steep climb coming up out of Sleepy Hollow, which taxes the southbound loaded trains. After getting the shot at Gentry, I was able to get ahead far enough to see the signal was at approach, and the train had not yet come around the curve at the base of the hill. The next jump would be a lot less frantic.

Description:  The approach signal at Davidson Rd meant a stop board here at North Siloam, and the train is holding out north of the signal, waiting for a meet with the 261 train. Hell be here 45 minutes before pulling down into the siding, his train stretched out over a mile behind him. Hell block Country Club Rd, but thats about all.

Right place, right time
Title:  Right place, right time
Description:  Wed taken my wifes car up to Gentry where one of my sons customers-hes the manager of the local OReilllys parts store-was going to look at it, a 2001 Stratus R/T, to see what repairs it needed. After talking to him, my wife took off for home, just as a southbound was pulling to the end of the siding. Ah, good, a meet. I went up to the Ark 59S crossing to get the northbound participant, an empty AEPX train, seen here at the crossing.
