Lucky catch
Title:  Lucky catch
Description:  I was crossing over the tracks on Ark 12, and looked to the south to check the signal. It was green for the main. I had about enough time to turn around and get into position, just barely catching this 92 car southbound M train.

Stretched out
Title:  Stretched out
Description:  The southbound Q train seen from a slightly closer angle to the tracks. The high cars make for an interesting long view. He appeared to be slowing for a meet, and had a red board at the south end of the siding. The meet was probably the northbound grain train we saw this day at Westville, with KCSM 4673 leading.

Q train
Title:  Q train
Description:  I had not done this shot in a while, but it turned out to be a good second choice. I was planning to get the shot off Ark 59 north of town, but the line there is now treed in along the creek, a lot of change since I first started coming here in 2007. So, I set up here at the Butler Creek bridge for this shot of the Q KCSH. Todays effort has 108 freight, 9 articulated auto racks, and 4 stack platforms.

Tunnel of trees
Title:  Tunnel of trees
Description:  When I lived in the northeast, this was a pervasive problem: rail lines were so long established that the trees had, over many years, grown up around them, making photography a challenge. So it is here as well, as this northbound Q train rolls in a long, shaded trough, the trees having grown up over the years.

Not fast enough
Title:  Not fast enough
Description:  I was heading out to drop recycling, which is conveniently adjacent to the tracks just beyond this crossing, leaving the house when I heard this guy blowing for a crossing. He made better time than I expected-the northbound trains tend to be empty moves of coal and grain cars-and I got there just a little too late to set up. Oh well. Cant win em all.

New spot
Title:  New spot
Description:  I never gave Sulphur Springs much thought. The good shots there are off the Arkansas 59 overpass north of town, and in town on the bridge over Butler Creek. I never took the time to explore for other spots, as there didnt seem to be much. My wife was with me this day, and wanted to look around town some, since we had not, largely because Sulphur Springs seems to be the town that time forgot. We saw a side street that looked like it headed for the tracks. and she saw a RR crossing sign. So off we went. The shot of a northbound there is straight on, but the southbound shot there is coming through a high car detector, which we see here with the Q train rolling though.

Caught him
Title:  Caught him
Description:  I had just gotten home from recycling-right by the tracks-when I heard a horn. This is a running joke between my wife and me: we always seem to hear a train within five minutes of returning home, no matter where weve been, or if weve been following the tracks the whole time we were out. I dropped the bins in the garage and headed out, knowing from the direction of the horn that it was a northbound. As I crested the hill into town, I heard the detectorf at Davidson Rd go off, and knew I had to hurry. As it turned out the train was being run into the siding at Gentry, and was holding there. Oh, good, a meet, I thought. I went to Main St and shot the head end as it waited at the site of the old station. Thats Ark 12 in the distance, Well see some shots from there later in the set.

Title:  DPU into the siding.
Description:  The DPU on the coal train swings into the siding, seen from the Ark 12 overpass. It would turn out there was to be no meet. I had left my scanner in the car, so did not hear any conversation with the dispatcher, so no idea why he had the train run through the siding here. The next southbound Im aware of didnt hit Siloam til several hours later, so must have met this guy at McElhany or Dalby.

Good timing
Title:  Good timing
Description:  We were heading out with the intention of a day out in Missouri when we caught this northbound empty grain train leaving Siloam Springs. We caught it at Gentry, seen here from the Ark 12 overpass as it takes the siding with 30 cars and spanking clean power. Bulbasaur(on the concrete bridge wall to the right of the leader) seems to have faded a bit since his arrival several years ago.
