Beach day
Title:  Beach day
Description:  The empty grain train rolls over the Elk River at Ginger Blue, a group of kids enjoying the high 70 degree day watching the 100 cars roll overhead. This was a one way chase, as there was nothing to meet at McElhany, near Neosho. So it goes.

Flowers too
Title:  Flowers too
Description:  The rocks along the line can be a great photo prop, but the delicate and colorful nature of flowers is also appealing. The grain train rolls past some rocks and flowers as it heads north in this wide angle view. The cliff above the trailing units is better seen in a southbound view about 1/2 mile south. The exposed rock makes a dramatic backdrop and was used by KCS for publicity photos.

Big rocks
Title:  Big rocks
Description:  The line in this part of Missouri follows Butler Creek up to Noel, where it reaches the Elk River. Over the millions of years it has taken for the valleys to form, many rocks have fallen from the cliffsides, among them some very large ones. The empty grain train passes on of them just south of Noel.

Flagged
Title:  Flagged
Description:  The northbound Q train rolls across Main St in Gentry, framed by several of the American flags that are on each light pole on the street. The trailing unit, a bit dirtier than the leader, doesn't show up as well.

Tunnel of trees
Title:  Tunnel of trees
Description:  When I lived in the northeast, this was a pervasive problem: rail lines were so long established that the trees had, over many years, grown up around them, making photography a challenge. So it is here as well, as this northbound Q train rolls in a long, shaded trough, the trees having grown up over the years.

Low water crossing
Title:  Low water crossing
Description:  This northbound Q train rolls along Butler Creek, crossing Kings Highway. This past spring, the road here was almost impassible due to water over the road, and was closed for a while. Now wed pay for rain.
