Short line catch
Title:  Short line catch
Description:  I like short lines, but I dont always have the patience to wait out an operation Im not familiar with, and may run sporadically, especially in an area Im not familiar with, so getting short line power at a yard is a good catch. Such was the case on a roll through Fort Smith as part of a larger trip in May 2006, when I still lived in NY. I caught this unit taking some sun at their yard downtown. It looks good in relatively fresh paint. Compare the same unit elsewhere in this album, shot in 2014.

HUH??
Title:  HUH??
Description:  I was waiting in line to ingate a container at Argentine one day, looked over between the line of trucks at the next lane, and saw this. Argetnine was not where I expected to see NYSW power. Then I remembered they were running the TP&W at the time.

Utica side northbound
Title:  Utica side northbound
Description:  One of the last trains I saw on the NYSW Utica branch had a good set of power, seen as it runs along Chenango County route 32 behind an interesting mix of power. The trailing GE's are former LMX units dead in tow.

Looking down the river
Title:  Looking down the river
Description:  BH 3 rolls 35 cars across the Chenango River, in a companion piece to the similar photo in this album, only now we see more of the frozen river it is crossing. There was a time when an effort was made to have a yellowjacket leading, to put forth a good image. Not today, as the patch painted ex SP unit is leading. It will eventually become an SD30ECO, but for now, its still a tired ex SP tunnel motor.

BH 3
Title:  BH 3
Description:  BH 3 rolls north past Old State Rd, coming down the connector from the D&H. It was built when the Bevier St overpasses were raised about 1990, and the DLW line bridge was removed. The old right of way is seen going off to the right.

TP&W power
Title:  TP&W power
Description:  BH 2 rolls north under I 81 as it makes its way toward Chenango Forks and the Syracuse Branch behind a GP 20 that was brought east during the time NYSW ran the TP&W. There were three of these units that saw several years of service on the "eastern lines." Also in the mix is one of NYSWs own GP 40s, and a lease fleet ex NW SD 40.

Tell us how you qeally feel
Title:  Tell us how you qeally feel
Description:  The six axle ex Cartier units were something less than stunning performers, and the T&E people were not always that fond of them. Someone has expressed his thoughtp in the dust on this one, seen outside the Binghamton engine house. Thats one of the ex TP&W GP 20s in the background.

Headed for home
Title:  Headed for home
Description:  NYSW BH 1 has done its interchange work with CP, and is now headed back to its yard downtown with its transfer cars behind a pair of GP 20s from the TP&W, which it operated for a few years in the 1990s. The view is from St Clair Av, at the old bridge abutment for Conklin Av, left in place when the new overpass was built.

End of the line
Title:  End of the line
Description:  The northern most location in the plains states, and the only place Santa Fe went in Nebraska, was Superior, a town it shared with a more familiar name to Cornhuskers, the BN. Still, there must have been some decent business on the line, judging by the five units parked here, including three GP 39's, a unit only a few roads bought.
