Mismatch
Title:  Mismatch
Description:  As NS prepared to single track the Tier, a project that would not come to fruition for another dozen years, it was replacing signals on the line. There were still a few semaphores, though by this time you could count them on the fingers of one hand. Some of the older target signals also got replaced, among them the eastbound signal on track 2, which had originally been about 1/4 mile farther east. It was replaced by this "Darth Vader" type, which was placed across from the target that stayed here in Campville. We see CP 167 rolling past in the snow of a January day.

Description:  In the first few years after 9/11, it was not uncommon for train crews to be antagonistic toward fans. Some of the CSX River Line crews seemed to take great pleasure in calling in anyone who appeared trackside with a camera. Thus, it was nice to get a wave from an engineer, as here with 165 at Nowlan Rd.

Description:  By 1992, SOO power on 390/391 trains had become pretty commonplace, so it was not a big deal to see SOO SD60s leading one, such as this train rolling up the Buffalo Runner to make a run at Belden Hill. The track leading straight into the first car of the train was once the DLW Syracuse and Utica branch, which crossed the D&H here at BX cabin.

Description:  A 261 train rolls around the big curve going into Canaseraga as seen from the NY 70 overpass. The Erie once had grade separated mains here, the eastbound being higher. That track was abandoned when Conrail single tracked the line in 1992. The view from up here is stunning on a nice day.

Description:  From my house in Campville, I could usually hear eastbounds blowing for the crossings on the east side of Owego, making it possible to get to Kinney Rd for a shot. Description:  Train 252 arrives at Binghamton behind a trio of CP units and one from SOO. The track going off at left is now a lead to switch Agway. It was once the DLW Syracuse and Utica Branch, which crossed the D&H here on a diamond. Now D&H trains use the connection to the DLW East Binghamton yard, via a pair of crossovers.
