Description:  Train 413 is rolling past the parking lot for a restaurant in Afton. If the train got out early enough, especially in the short days of winter, getting a good side angle with some train in it could be a challenge. The feature here, though, is the leader, an ex SOO non dynamic brake SD 40. Bet the engineer was real happy with it coming off Belden and Richmondville.

Description:  CP 421 was the train that ran to Buffalo the days 167 didnt run. Todays version has three SOO SD60s not that unusual at the time. Here they split the signals at MP 228 in Campville. Note the traffic light signal on track 2. This was installed in preparation for single tracking the line, which NS would not accomplish for almost another 10 years.

The other shot

Description:  Tioga Center was known for the pair of semaphores that were opposite each other at the Ayres Rd crossing a mile of so east of this location, and that was "the" shot there. I always loved the cormfield and hills, but the lighting didnt usually favor that shot, since the train was going to be dark almost all the time. I took advantage of one of the Southern Tiers many cloudy days to get 261 there in more even light.
