Caught him
Title:  Caught him
Description:  The train, not the cow. My daughter was in from Tampa for Thanksgiving, returning this Monday morning. We passed through Gentry on the way to the airport, seeing the back of this empty oil train as we turned onto Ark 12 to go to XNA. I figured, this guy will be gone when we get back after dropping her off. To my surprise, the train was still there, waiting at the Ark 59B crossing, in the company of one of the local residents. There would be more action unfolding shortly.

It starts when I hear a horn
Title:  It starts when I hear a horn
Description:  I was outside working in the yard when I heard a horn, this one coming from a train working up the grade from Watts. I took off, hoping to get a few shots in the fading light. There was enough left to get to Gravette, and it started here at Tahlequah St in Siloam, an ET 44 leading the 54 stack platforms, 10 articulated auto racks, and 7 standard racks of the 181. I was glad to see the ET 44, the second time in a week, since they don't seem to show up here often.

Sometimes its a short chase
Title:  Sometimes its a short chase
Description:  I went on to Gravette, hoping there would be enough light to get him at Dallas St, but that was already getting into shadow, so I was able to get him a little closer to downtown, just barely. Time to head home. Id see the 261 near Decatur, but the light was far enough gone by then that there wasnt s good shot.

Finally, here he comes
Title:  Finally, here he comes
Description:  I had gone up to dump recycling, but saw nothing, and finally decided to do a quick grocery trip. As I was on my way back to the house, the gates were down at Kenwood St. Figures, and I have ice cream in the car. I did a quick drop at home, and took off after the train. He was in Gentry when I caught him, so I ran up to Decatur to get the shot at the station and signal. He had a stop and proceed at 219-1, which meant a slow roll into town here. Finally, he rolls around the curve toward the station.

Description:  The obvious place to see trains in Gravette is downtown, where the tracks come up next to Ark 59. A few blocks south, where Dallas St crosses, there were a couple of sidings. Description:  I didnt beat the train to Gentry, but I knew I could get ahead of him before he got to Decatur, and a spot with OK sun angle, since it was the middle of the day. I set up at Y City Road, just north of the new Simmons plant, which gave me enough room to get all six units.

Wider look
Title:  Wider look
Description:  A bit wider angle shows the full power consist and some of the train. When I crossed the tracks to set up this shot, I saw the signal just to the north flashing yellow, approach medium for the next signal in downtown Decatur, which would be displaying approach. That meant a meet at Dorsey, between Decatur and Gravette. I rolled the coal train by, and waited for the southbound.

Rolling into the sunset
Title:  Rolling into the sunset
Description:  Literally and figuratively. The trains DPU is rolling southwest by compass into the setting sun, and will be in the dark by the time he reaches Westville. The Toyota at right has been the "railfan chase vehicle" for the last decade. I bought it new-24 miles on it-in April 2014, and have put 155,500 miles on it since then, chasing all over America for all kinds of things, and a lot of trains, too. This is its last such outing. We just acquired at Subaru Outback Touring XT, which has 105 miles on it, and will replace the Toyota. Its staying in the family, my wifes son is getting it, but were moving up to a newer ride. The Toyota served us well for ten years. But now weve been dog tested, dog approved, and moving onward.

Title:  Northbound to a meet.
Description:  I heard this northbound calling signals as it approached Stilwell, and was able to get to the station to catch it passing in a going away shot. The actual meet was on the other end of the building. Would have been a nice catch, but these things are hard to predict at times. A battered KCSM GE trails.

Description:  Usually, the trees near a river or lake hold their leaves longer than elsewhere, due to the proximity of a good water source. Not here, apprently. Must be a northeast thing. Better than I expected
Title:  Better than I expected
Description:  I was afraid this view from the Ark 59 overpass would have no color in it whatsoever., but was pleasantly surprised to find there was still a little bit left, and enough light to make for a passably decent photo. Hes stop just north of here, depriving me of a shot near Noel along the creek there.

Caught him
Title:  Caught him
Description:  The head end of the empty coal train rolls around the curve to the signal at CP Sosth Watts, where it will meet the southbound grain train I heard from the house. Had to really run for this one. Sometimes an inspired engineer and a light(relatively speaking) t{ain can be a challenge for the chaser!!
