On the crossing |
Description: |
I was at home working on some project or another when I heard a horn, which sounded like it was coming from a northbound. I got myself organized and out, thinking where I might shoot a northbound in the middle of the day with its unfavorable sun angle. I settled on Davidson Rd, since it gives a good side angle. Then I saw the train, an empty 124 car TXUX coal train, with six units up front. There was no way I was going to capture the whole power consist, never mind any train, so I went for the lights, in this case, crossing flashers, as the head end crossed over Davidson Rd. |

Y City Rd |
Description: |
I didnt beat the train to Gentry, but I knew I could get ahead of him before he got to Decatur, and a spot with OK sun angle, since it was the middle of the day. I set up at Y City Road, just north of the new Simmons plant, which gave me enough room to get all six units. |

Wider look |
Description: |
A bit wider angle shows the full power consist and some of the train. When I crossed the tracks to set up this shot, I saw the signal just to the north flashing yellow, approach medium for the next signal in downtown Decatur, which would be displaying approach. That meant a meet at Dorsey, between Decatur and Gravette. I rolled the coal train by, and waited for the southbound. |

Q train pusher |
Description: |
More like a dragger at this point, as the head end is now past South Siloam Springs and headed downhill to Watts, so the DPU will be providing dynamic braking at this point, now in the shadow of the Siloam Spings water tower. |

The rear of the Q train is assisted into the siding by the DPU, which is clearing the north end signals. |

Late afternoon glint |
Description: |
I heard a horn and beat it into town, catching this 100 car empty grain move going north. Should have gone farther up to Davidson Rd, the light would have been better. |
