Pushing in the shadows
Title:  Pushing in the shadows
Description:  The day had been one of dodging clouds, the sun in and out. I had hoped to get the panoramic shot from old US 59 of the grain trains DPU north of Westville, but the sun wasnt cooperating. We see the DPU in the shadows, along with some local livestock(descendants of JJ Young's inflatable cows!!) and a flowery meadow.

Spavinaw Creek
Title:  Spavinaw Creek
Description:  The first of two shots taken from the Lime Kiln Rd crossing in Gravette. The train is moving almost due north here; getting a nose lit photo here is possible only for a very short period during the longest days of the year-one of which is today, the first day of summer. This northbound empty grain train has just crossed Spavinaw Creek-the truss bridge in the distance-and is climbing into Gravette. Hes just met a southbound M train, which is most of the way to Decatur at this point. Hell be easy to catch, though as he drags the grade through town.

This is not the 4877 you are looking for
Title:  This is not the 4877 you are looking for
Description:  It was inevitable that, sooner or later, I would come across the 4877. Unfortunately, not the celebrated Tuscan red GG 1-though I did see and ride behind it over 40 years ago-but the KCS ES 44 that is just another GE in the fleet. I was returning from the I 181 chase, and happened upon this northbound M 261 just as I rolled into downtown Gravette. Hes got 57 cars in tow as he rolls into the gathering gloom. In an odd twist, second unit CP 8769 is the second CP 8769 I've seen; the other was an RS 18 at Mechanicville on the D&H in 1984.

Spavinaw Creek wide view
Title:  Spavinaw Creek wide view
Description:  The northbound empty grain move now closes in on my location at Lime Kiln Rd. This train is heading almost due north, on the longest day of the year. There is a very limited window when you can get this shot with the engine nose lit.

Canned going north
Title:  Canned going north
Description:  We were heading to breakfast after our senior light aerobics class, and saw this train sitting on the bridge, just like thea couple nights earlier. I had to go past the head end anyway, so I was able to get a shot, but it turned out it was now a second train, an empty AEPX train headed north. He had a UP leader, not unusual for these trains, and four more units trailing. When I came back the next day, the three trailing units had been picked up, leaving the two head end unit on the train. It sat here a good 36 hours before moving.
