One frosty morn |
Description: |
A pair of trains at the north end of Gentry on a day where the ice had formed on all the trees, making for a pretty photo, but somewhat hazardous driving. Fortunately, most of these events dont last long. The railroad, regardless of the weather, just keeps going. |

While you wait |
Description: |
As the dodger was working Pipelife, an often time consuming project with a lot of sitting and waiting time, I heard a horn off to the south. Must be another northbound. Three minutes later I got this 100 car northbound empty grain train passing the local behind an ES 44, and a repainted AC44CW, of which there seem to be more and more lately. |

Caught up again |
Description: |
After taking care of things in Stilwell, I headed back for Siloam, catching the H train working at Watts. Here the power is backing into the yard for a three car pick up. The light was going, and it was getting to be dinnertime, so one shot, and off I go. |

Waiting on the grain |
Description: |
When I got to Stilwell, this northbound H train was waiting in the siding. For the second day in a row, I caught one of the AC44CW's in Belle paint, three of them in two days. They must be catching up at the paint shop. Also in consist is an ex ATSF SD 75M, now a lease unit. I had to do a few things in town, so I shot him here, got the grain train at the station, then went to take care of my chores. Id pick up the chase shortly, though. |

Spavinaw Creek |
Description: |
The first of two shots taken from the Lime Kiln Rd crossing in Gravette. The train is moving almost due north here; getting a nose lit photo here is possible only for a very short period during the longest days of the year-one of which is today, the first day of summer. This northbound empty grain train has just crossed Spavinaw Creek-the truss bridge in the distance-and is climbing into Gravette. Hes just met a southbound M train, which is most of the way to Decatur at this point. Hell be easy to catch, though as he drags the grade through town. |

The northbound empty grain move now closes in on my location at Lime Kiln Rd. This train is heading almost due north, on the longest day of the year. There is a very limited window when you can get this shot with the engine nose lit. |

Last chance |
Description: |
I had followed the northbound Q train from Cave Springs, getting a somewhat lit shot of it at Stilwell, and hoped to get some sun on it here, hoping the sun would still be high enough to get a little light. It wasnt to be, but there was still enough light to get a shot. By the time I got to Westville, there wasnt enough light left for a good photo, so this was as far as the "and back" went today. |

Just barely |
Description: |
The sun had been in and out most of the afternoon, with large cloud banks moving past, though some were thin enough to let some light through. They lightened up enouigh here to get a decently lit shot of the northbound Q train just north of the Stilwell station. Today's effort has 9 articulated auto racks behind the power, 17 conventional auto racks and 19 stack platforms with mostly JB Hunt boxes back in the train, and 78 freight to round out a 508 axle consist. |

Cluttered |
Description: |
A view from a 300mm lens shows the Q train passing the Stilwell station, but also a lot of clutter in the frame, what with poles, vehicles, signs, wires, etc. A gray AC 44 leads the train past the station, seen from across US 59. |

Across the creek |
Description: |
The DPU on the southbound oil train rolls across Baron Creek as it makes its way south. Theres just enough sun angle to get it well lit. Another couple weeks, the bridge will be in enough shadow to put this shot in shadow. |

I was unable to beat the oil train through Siloam Springs-not uncommon, the traffic there will kill any chase-but was able to get to the river bridge in time to catch the DPU there. |
