Barren Creek |
Description: |
A northbound empty grain train rolls across the Barren Creek bridge. Oklahoma DOT cleared out most of the brush between the railroad and adjacent US 59 as part of a project that will see US 59 become a 4 lane from just north of Watts, where the 4 lane presently ends, to Westville, opening up this view, among many others. |

Dodging the shadows |
Description: |
The shadows get long on the KCS due to a ridge to the west of the railroad. Fortunately there are places the sun still hits til late, such as this near MP 239. KS 4787 and four other units roll 105 empty grain hoppers north. They will meet a southbound at Watts. |

Pastoral scene |
Description: |
An empty grain train rolls north past so future dinners. I took this from the shoulder of US 59 soon be "old" 59. The new 4 lane right of way is visible in the foreground. When its completed, it will take the thrill out of this location-no more dodging feed trucks at 65 MPH. |

DPUs |
Description: |
A three unit DPU trails this TXUX train rolling south on the main. For a while, KCS would put their power about 85 cars deep, making a 2x2x1 power set. This one, the train only 119 cars vs the usual 125, had the DPUs all on the rear. |

Church and a cloud |
Description: |
I was able to get ahead of the H train with a little hustle, and rolling 75 MPH to pass a slowpoke(why people go 55 on a 65 MPH road, I cant figure), just beating him to Baron for this shot of the church with a tall cloud in the background. |

Four units past the station |
Description: |
A shot I want to get right is the head on angle coming past the building, but since I dont really have any decent shots of the new ET44s, I opted for this wider angle. The four head end units of the H train roll their 143 cars past the station-look at the rest of the train to the left of the station. Too bad I got dinked. This would have been a good open view in the sun. Win some, lose some. |

Catch me if you can |
Description: |
I heard this southbound H train coming through Siloam Springs. Even if I hear a train at the first crossing in town, Country Club Rd, I cant get into town in time to get a shot, and getting across town on US 412 kills the chase most of the time, so I run down Ark 59 to US 62, then west to Westville OK. If he works Watts, I can usually get there before he heads south. Sometimes not. I started toward Watts, only to get about two miles out of town and see the train off to the east. I pulled the first U turn I could and tried for a shot at Westville. I got it, but not the one I wanted. Just as I apprached the Buffington Rd crossing, he was there. I turned on the side road, and was able to get a going away shot of the power. |
