Rail train |
Description: |
A rail train is at Binghamton, showing the two types of 2300 HP units on the Conrail roster, a newer B23-7 and a U23B. The U boats still had a couple of years left a this time, and could be found on various MOW trains, as well as some locals. |

Hustling home |
Description: |
WABH 11 rolls through BD on its way back to the yard after switching in Kirkwood. In the background, CP power on MEBU is hiding in the shrubbery. It will go west on track 3, avoiding WABH 11 working at QD. It will join the Tier at Johnson, out on the west side. |

Putting it away |
Description: |
WABH 11 puts its train away, spotting cars to be picked up by the road trains to be taken to far away places. Note the signal mast: it is now bereft of signals. This mast once carried the distant signal for CP Johnson(formerly West BD), where the old DLW tied into the Tier, an arrangement completed by the Erie and Lackawanna in 1959. Now there is one long block between BD and Johnson. In a few more years, the mast itself will come down, and one of the more recognizable parts of the EL in Binghamton will be gone. The Erie freight house, at right, will last til 1999 before it, too, becomes a memory. |
