Across the field
Title:  Across the field
Description:  After following NY 70 for about 12 miles from Canaseraga, the tracks veer away as they approach the Portage Bridge in Letchworth State Park, taking a more direct path than the road. We see 261 just east of Dalton as it starts this approach behind SOO and GATX units with 62 TOFC.

Out of the valley
Title:  Out of the valley
Description:  CP 261 rolls past the new, but not yet active, signals at CP HORN, replacing the old Erie lights there as part of the single tracking project. This marks what was the east end of Hornell yard, ZY on the EL. This was once a major yard and shop on the EL, now only a few tracks, and the shop an ABB complex that rehabs transit and commuter cars.

Bearing down
Title:  Bearing down
Description:  Trains coming off the Portage Bridge, about ten miles to the east and a 10 MPH speed restriction, had climbed out of the valley and were usually making a pretty good clip by the time they got to Silver Springs, as this 261 is doing behind a SOO SD 40 and GATX leaser with 54 cars of C/TOFC.

SOO and NYSW power head west
Title:  SOO and NYSW power head west
Description:  One of the great things for a railfan about the transition from directed service by the NYSW to the CP was the unlikely power mixes. Who ever figured a small regional like NYSW would have its power in the same consists with SOO units?? Yet, here it is....
