Odd place for a DPU |
Description: |
Usually the DPU will be at the end of the train, except where there are intermodal cars of auto racks, in which case it will be ahead of them. This H train had its DPU ahead of a pair of side dump cars which had been used in fixing the recent washout here at Watts. My guess is that they are restricted from being pushed. |

Dark side |
Description: |
I had shot the grain train at Gravette as he was topping the grade from Sulphur Springs. I knew it would be a crap shoot, but I went to try the shot at Wolf Creek, just north of Dorsey. I almost made it. The train was approaching the crossing as I pulled up. The dark side view accentuates the sun on the nose of the lead unit. NOTE!!!! This crossing has only crossbucks, no gates or flashers. This is why you ALWAYS stop at such crossings, especially when your sight lines are impaired, such as they are here. If I had not stopped-and I knew there was a train-it would have killed the chase, and maybe me, too. Safety is important. Its what allows you to live to see another day. |

Wide view |
Description: |
I dont usually do the afternoon shot at Gravette, since the side view is blocked by shrubbery and other clutter, so the only good angle is almost head on. I decided to go with it, since the sun was perfect. |
