Title:
Got beat again
Description:
I was heading home after chasing the southbound H train earlier-that effort is in "The Chase Is On"-when I saw this southbound on the Illinois River bridge. There was road work in progress between there and Watts, so chasing for the head end was out of the question. I was able to get the DPUs as the train passed the crossing leading to the bridge and Lake Frances.

Late catch
Description:
Wed gone down to Tahlequah to see some family, and had returned via Stilwell and US 59, rolling up on through Westville. North of Westville we caught up to a northbound H train, which I shot going into Watts as the sun was getting low. The first photo was here at Chewie Rd south of Watts, three units, including a gray KCSM GE have 54 cars in tow.

Going away

Title:
It starts with a horn
Description:
We had just gotten back from a trip to Rogers for lunch/shopping, and I had just finished putting the stuff away, when I heard a horn from what sounded like a northbound. Lately, it seems every time I set foot outside, theres a train. This was the first sunny day in about a week, so out the door I went. The quarry turned out to be a northbound empty American Electric Power train returning from Texas, seen here at Davidson Rd, all four units up front of its 124 cars.

Inspired
Description:
The northbounds usually make good time, since theyre empty and lighter. This crew must have been on the way home, they werent wasting any time. He beat me to Gentry, but I was able to outrun him to Y City Rd just south of Decatur.

Dodging the shadows
Description:
This shot is now possible only when the leaves are off, since the trees here, when in full foliage, now block most of the view. The low sun is creating a lot of shadow at 1530 for the northbound.

Along the rocks
Description:
The empty coal train rolls below Butler Bluff as it heads to a meet with the 262, which is waiting in the siding. Leader UP 5888 is a recent repaint, now in the small cab side flag, and no wings on the nose scheme. Too bad. The large flag was a good look, but got pretty ratty as it wore. But the nose wings were an elegant touch, harkening back to a storied past.
