Description:  I caught this 31T rolling west out of Binghamton as it left QD and rolled its 107 cars across the Chenango River. It was one of those glorious sunny days in the Tier, made for a chase. I made the best of it, following this train to Dalton, almost 140 miles to the west.

Title:  Last shot
Description:  This was the last shot I got of that 31T. West of Hornell, he really took off, and I had a hard time keeping up, since he had 50 MPH, and I had to get through Canisteo and Hornell, a challenge to start with, then deal with 40 MPH at Arkport, 30 at Canaseraga, and hope to stay close. I beat him here, but that was the end. I could have beat him to Silver Springs, but it was getting late and I had to be at work the next morning by 6.

Description:  31T crosses the Chemung River at Elmira with 117 cars. Must have rained a lot recently-not a stretch, seems like its ALWAYS raining in the Southern Tier!! The water is high-normally you can almost walk across the river bed here.

Description:  31T crosses the Chemung River, as seen from the park on Water St. This was always a good location, but if you shot him at Waverly, you had to run to get it. If you shot him at Chemung, you really had to hustle, and hope you made the lights in Elmira.

Description:  There had been a washout near this location several years prior, and the track had all been rebuilt. 31T is taking advantage of the new track, though the curvature in the valley is such that it wont make a lot of speed anyway. Description:  Not in the way youd expect. 30T sits at the ex DLW station waiting for a crew, while a Broome Transit bus crosses overhead on Chenango St. Its either a 28-Robinson St or 40-Chenango St; both use Chenango out of downtown, with the 28 turning onto Robinson to head to the end of the line at the Binghamton Psych Center. The 28 was good for seeing the action at Bevier St, since it also did a loop up Broad Av in both directions. Many a morning I watched NS 206 while on that run. The bus is one of the 23 Orion 6 coaches acquired by BC Transit in 2000.

Meeting a local
Title:  Meeting a local
Description:  41T is in the distance approaching Waverly as H 10, behind a C40-8 and GP 59 rolls down the Lehigh Secondary, which connects the Southern Tier Line to the ex LV at Sayre. On Conrail days, daily Corning-Allentown trains CGAL and ALCG used this line to go down the Valley, as well as access the Ithaca Branch for coal and salt traffic. NS still uses the line for the latter, and to reach GE Railcar in Sayre, but the line is no longer a through route, with NS routing Allentown traffic via Binghamton and the D&H.

Title:  Six big ones
Description:  The CN trains must have gotten out of their slot, since they rarely ran with more than four units, and even that was unusual. This 41T seen across the corn at Hiawatha Rd has six, so a set must have gotten out of its cycle, and is now being moved back home as part of this massive consist, with 85 cars in tow.
