Still Alcos
Title:  Still Alcos
Description:  The C424s would stay in service for a few more years on the D&H, as CP had then quite a stable of them, and they fit right in with CP's power. One is at the fuel pad with a group of NS units, up from Potomac Yard.

Interesting power
Title:  Interesting power
Description:  Despite the dwindling variety of diesels offered by the two remaining builders by 1990, there was still a remarkable variety on NS, and they seemed to run systemwide, and onto connections. The line up at the East Binghamton fuel pad this day bears this out, as we see a GP 59, B32-8, and GP 50, models that were not huge sellers compared to the SD40 types and C30-7s that pervaded most of the big roads rosters at that time.

Meeting a local
Title:  Meeting a local
Description:  41T is in the distance approaching Waverly as H 10, behind a C40-8 and GP 59 rolls down the Lehigh Secondary, which connects the Southern Tier Line to the ex LV at Sayre. On Conrail days, daily Corning-Allentown trains CGAL and ALCG used this line to go down the Valley, as well as access the Ithaca Branch for coal and salt traffic. NS still uses the line for the latter, and to reach GE Railcar in Sayre, but the line is no longer a through route, with NS routing Allentown traffic via Binghamton and the D&H.

H88 unusual leader
Title:  H88 unusual leader
Description:  H 88 usually got the standard set of widecabs, but sometimes would run a spell where it got an interesting mix of power. On one of those days, we see a GP 59 an ex NW GP 38AC, and an ex Southern GP 38-2 leading 65 cars at Endicott.

Sometimes you win one
Title:  Sometimes you win one
Description:  I have family in the Atlanta area, and will usually take one of two routes from home in Arkansas, either US 78 via Tupelo, or US 72 via Huntsville. I like the second one because a good portion of it is in view of the NS Memphis District. Such was the case on this trip, when I caught this local near Courtland, along US 72. Easy shot, and the prize is the GP 59-not many built, and good to see an oddball still in service all these years later.

Title:  NS power on 257
Description:  Train 257 seemed to get NS power a lot. Here we see two of NS more unusual units, an ex Southern GP 50 and a GP 59, rolling west with 67 stack platforms.
