A leased SD 38, one of two on the railroad-the other is the last unit in this consist-a couple of patch painted SP units, and a black ex NS SD lead a 76 car train north past the ex DLW station, partly visible behind the train, at Whitney Point. This is most likely an SU 403, a train run as a detour move for CSX. This was common at the time, as CSX was doing a lot of work on their ex NYC lines from Jersey to Buffalo, so getting a low priority train off their main eased the congestion. |

For a while in the 1990s, NYSW could put together a pretty good looking set of power. After Walter Rich passed, and most of the SD 45s were sold or scrapped, they picked up used diesels from a number of sources. The result was, it became harder and harder to find a matched set of power. This SU 100 is a case in point, rolling a 63 car train east past the Kirkwood water plant, though it does have one of the two SD 40T-2's that they had painted at the time. |

During summer track work season, CSX would send detour trains over NYSW on a daily basis. Mostly these were low priority trains, usually Q 403 and 404. Q 156 was a higher priority train that often made the trip via Binghamton. We see it here passing Kirkwood Industrial Park along US 11 with a UP leader, with 46 freight and 79 stacks for Jersey. |
