Reflections
Title:  Reflections
Description:  The new camera came with an 18-55mm zoom, so now I have one where the auto focus works, which is a nice change from the two I had. The southbound oil train nears the signals at North Stilwell, the headlights reflecting in the lens in the dim light.

Description:  I took off after the oil train, getting even with the head end at Westville, but not able to get far enough ahead for a shot there. I beat him to Baron, where I got him passing the old church.

Passing the signal
Title:  Passing the signal
Description:  KCS relocated the automatics from about a half mile north to a position right at the crossing here, making for a good "hardware" shot. The 120 car oil train passes behind CP and NS units.

Waiting
Title:  Waiting
Description:  The oil train has pulled up by the Adair County barn, holding out of the siding at Stilwell, waiting on a meet with a northbould. Stopping here will keep the train from blocking several busy crossings on the siding, as well as setting the traffic lights on adjacent US 59 to flashing red. Hell be here, as it always seems to work out, til the light goes.

Big curve
Title:  Big curve
Description:  The line south of Cave Springs rolls along next to the road for about two miles down to the small community of Bunch, a grade crossing, a few houses and a couple of churches. About 1/2 mile before reaching the crossing at MP 271, the line rolls around a sweeping curve. The oil train comes around the curve, passing me in sweet light.

Under the board
Title:  Under the board
Description:  The stack train takes the high green and blows past. I was going to try to chase him to Sale Creek, but it proved fruitless. So I went to Krystal, picked up a bag of belly bombers-theyre like a southern White Castle-and headed back for the family homestead in Jasper GA. Except for the crappy weather, a good day.

A long way from home, then a short trip
Title:  A long way from home, then a short trip
Description:  Sometimes you think youre going to get a lot of railroad, but things dont quite work out that way. I was visiting family in Georgia, and had a couple of days while my wife and some of the gals went to Pigeon Forge, so I thought Id get up on the e Southern Rathole to check out the action. I got to Dayton Tenn, and saw that getting through town was going to be a challenge. And there was a southbound waiting to move after getting a signal. I chased to the next town, Bakewell, and to him passing the signal there with 78 freight, and 12 autoracks behind its two units. Id spend the day between here and Dayton. Saw 7 trains. The skies were gray all day, which sucked-I HATE when I go somewhere I never get to go, and the weather sucks, especially after the prediction was for 70 and sun. But, a bad day train watching.....
