KCS has taken delivery of a group of ET 44 AHs, of which this is the first. Theyve been on the roster several months, but my schedule hasnt allowed me to get out and chase much, so this is the first one Ive caught on film, or, electrons. Figures it would be almost in the dark. Its trailing on the northbound H train at Watts. |

Four units past the station |
Description: |
A shot I want to get right is the head on angle coming past the building, but since I dont really have any decent shots of the new ET44s, I opted for this wider angle. The four head end units of the H train roll their 143 cars past the station-look at the rest of the train to the left of the station. Too bad I got dinked. This would have been a good open view in the sun. Win some, lose some. |

Catch me if you can |
Description: |
I heard this southbound H train coming through Siloam Springs. Even if I hear a train at the first crossing in town, Country Club Rd, I cant get into town in time to get a shot, and getting across town on US 412 kills the chase most of the time, so I run down Ark 59 to US 62, then west to Westville OK. If he works Watts, I can usually get there before he heads south. Sometimes not. I started toward Watts, only to get about two miles out of town and see the train off to the east. I pulled the first U turn I could and tried for a shot at Westville. I got it, but not the one I wanted. Just as I apprached the Buffington Rd crossing, he was there. I turned on the side road, and was able to get a going away shot of the power. |

S curve |
Description: |
The grain train rolls through the S curve at Chewie Road, to the chagrin of a local motorist who didnt expect a train, judging by the hard stop as he pulled up to the tracks. |

Lucky catch |
Description: |
We had gone out for a drive to see the snow here in Arkansas and Oklahoma-funny, because Id never have done that in New York, but here its something of a novelty-and were coming north on US 59 from Westville, when I saw a headlight coming toward me just south of Watts. I was able to set up at the curve just south of Chewie Rd-not the new sign, right at the best point in the curve-and get a couple of shots of this southbound grain train. |

Going for bagels |
Description: |
I had called down to Pour Jons for a couple of bagels this morning, and headed for the shop when they texted me. As I came up over the US 412 overpass, I noted a train moving south over Lincoln St. I made a quick turn onto Kenwood, to see if the head end was there already. No, but there was what looked like MOW equipment in the siding. I did a quick run onto US 412, getting this shot from the bridge of a southbound 262. The train in the siding?? A northbound military extra. |

This is not the 4877 you are looking for |
Description: |
It was inevitable that, sooner or later, I would come across the 4877. Unfortunately, not the celebrated Tuscan red GG 1-though I did see and ride behind it over 40 years ago-but the KCS ES 44 that is just another GE in the fleet. I was returning from the I 181 chase, and happened upon this northbound M 261 just as I rolled into downtown Gravette. Hes got 57 cars in tow as he rolls into the gathering gloom. In an odd twist, second unit CP 8769 is the second CP 8769 I've seen; the other was an RS 18 at Mechanicville on the D&H in 1984. |

They needed it on this monster M train. The DPU was 125 cars deep in the train. There were still 85 more behind it. |

Good timing |
Description: |
We were heading out with the intention of a day out in Missouri when we caught this northbound empty grain train leaving Siloam Springs. We caught it at Gentry, seen here from the Ark 12 overpass as it takes the siding with 30 cars and spanking clean power. Bulbasaur(on the concrete bridge wall to the right of the leader) seems to have faded a bit since his arrival several years ago. |
