WM unit |
Description: |
I normally dont shoot mid consist units, but anything lettered Western Maryland was getting rare by this time. A Chessie painted WM unit is trailing on this 172 at North Collier. Wish I'd shot the unit behind it-a GP 30 in Seaboard paint. |

PYRP arrives |
Description: |
PYRP crosses Terrace Drive and enters the East Binghamton yard. Power is typical, but today we have something different, rebuilt GP 38-2 7312, just in from M-K in Mountain Top PA. Note the railfan chase vehicle in the foreground. This was a Canadian built Chevy Celebrity for the Canadian market-the speed read in kilometers per hour, and the odometer counted kilometers. It took some adjusting to figure out how far and fast you were going. I got pretty good at multiplying everything by 5/8ths. |

Not only todays PYPR, but this rebuilt GP38-2. It looks good, and will be one of the last survivors in that scheme.!It was still wearing it in 2015, a full 25 years after it was rebuilt. |

Fall color |
Description: |
Not only are the trees in color, the consists on trains riding the former B&O are looking colorful as well. This 137 car westbound is crossing the Potomac after passing through the Harpers Ferry Tunnel. The gent in the river seems more intent on the fish than the train. |

Five units north |
Description: |
There's a surprise in there too-the 4th unit is a BQ 23-7. The spot I had there at Collier was excellent-nice little pull off to park in, shaded by pines, easy to sit and have a soda and read the paper. The only drawback was that the trains often came on you so fast you could not really set up. The afternoon was not so bad-the parking area was on the west side of the tracks-but the morning was a challenge, as you could not get over to the sun side fast enough. So this is a dark side shot. So it goes. |

Passing the freight house |
Description: |
SLN 5 with a stealth leader passes the old Erie freight house. It was a huge structure, largely empty by this time. It would be demolished in about five more years. The signal, the intermediate between BD and West BD, would also come down in a few years. |

Clean SP units!! |
Description: |
Two years after the UP took over the SP, I came across these two SP units on a local in Denver while waiting to get a dispatch out of town. Clean SP units were always a find, more so now that the fleet was scattering. Of course, my luck being what it is, I see them on a cloudy day. Figures. |
