Meet at the signal
Title:  Meet at the signal

DPU and a water tower
Title:  DPU and a water tower
Description:  The Siloam water tower in town is in good proximity to the tracks. Too bad the name of the town doesnt face the tracks. The DPU, a KCSM/KCS duo, likely added at Pittsburg-and ahead of the BNSF unit that came with the train from Wyoming-pushes for now, but will shortly be holding back the 131 cars as it drops the 1.5% into Watts

Description:  After getting the shot of the leader going past the signals, I ran to get it meeting the power on the Q train. He was a bit faster than me, and I didnt get the power passing power shot I wanted. This is still a pretty good action shot, though, of the Q train conductor giving the northbound a roll by.

In the shade
Title:  In the shade
Description:  After shooting the meet with the northbound oil train at Siloam, I took off, making good time through town-the biggest obstacle to chasing on this part of the Heavener Sub, getting through Siloam-and was able to beat the train to North Watts, but not far enough ahead to get the strarght on shot of him coming off the Illinois River bridge. I had to settle for this shot of him splitting the signals at CP North Watts. A decent shot in any event. The low sun of late fall means lots of shade here most of the day.

We start with a meet
Title:  We start with a meet
Description:  I was home on Saturday afternoon and heard a horn. I went into town to see what was going on, to find a northbound empty coal train in the hole at Siloam. As I reached the light at Main St, I heard the detector at Davidson Rd go off for a southbound. I pulled a quick U turn and set up on the US 412 overpass, catching this southbound 113 car H train as it passed the waiting coal train. He had a DPU, but I didn't stick around to see it.

Day 2
Title:  Day 2
Description:  Sunday of that weekend dawned chilly, but with promise to get into the 40s again. The roads had dried out a bit since the day before, but still a lot of snow cover elsewhere. We heard a horn to the north, and were able to catch this southbound 262 about to roll under the US 412 overpass in Siloam Springs, passing the former Allen Canning warehouse in the process.

Description:  We passed up the shot at Cave Springs, recalling that the road there was mostly snow covered the day before, and I wanted to get this shot at Bunch. Turned out the road was in much better shape, and we might have been able to do the tangent shot at Cave Springs and get this spot, too, but not taking chances, given a redo of the previous days chance.

Q train in the hollow
Title:  Q train in the hollow
Description:  QNLKC rolls north just beyond the end of Dorsey siding, digging into the climb to Gravette. Interesting side note: I worked for JB Hunt at their Lowell Ark headquarters for several years. As everyone knows, they are a huge intermodal user. In the lobby, there is a display of model trains from the major rail partners. These consist of one or two units in HO scale, and some stack cars. This is the unit on the KCS display. The one on the wall is in the Belle scheme. Not so in real life!!

Empty grain back north
Title:  Empty grain back north
Description:  A northbound empty grain train rolls toward the Kenwood St crossing in Siloam, its bright colors in contrast to the advancing greenery of spring. This was one of those dumb luck shots. I was coming back across town after lunch and a couple of errands, just when the gates went down. I figured it would be the dodger-at that time of day, it usually is-but got a surprise when this guy showed up. Once in a while, I win one!!

Chicken Feed
Title:  Chicken Feed
Description:  Which is big business here. Curran Feed is a retailer, and does not have a siding, but the trains pass right by the building, making for this scene of Gentry commerce. Southbound Q train rolls by.

Flashing
Title:  Flashing
Description:  I rolled up on this southbound Q train just as it was approaching the Main St crossing in Gentry, getting the approach along with the flashers blinking out their warning to approaching motorists.

Stretched out
Title:  Stretched out
Description:  The southbound Q train seen from a slightly closer angle to the tracks. The high cars make for an interesting long view. He appeared to be slowing for a meet, and had a red board at the south end of the siding. The meet was probably the northbound grain train we saw this day at Westville, with KCSM 4673 leading.
