NY 17C is within sight of the Southern Tier Line for most of its distance in Tioga County, making for a good chase road. You have to hustle in places to keep up. One such place is between Barton and Waverly, where the tracks cut a much shorter arc to reach the same point. I was trying the beat the train into Waverly, but wanted to grab the shot across the field-this is the place where theres a concrete underpass in the middle of the cornfield, to allow the cows to get under the former LV, now long gone-but not lose any time. I held the camera up and shot, with this as the result. |

It was painted as a welcome to the BC Open, a local golf tournament, promarily to see from the road next to the tracks, which led to town from the Triple Cities Airport. It made a good photo prop. That was about to end as the state was building a new overpass to replace the steel bridge, which had outlived its design. |

The head end of 169 rolls over Tunnel Rd as it eases down the hill toward Binghamton. This bridge has been a pain for years, as you have to take a hard zig zag and slow to 15 MPH to get under. |

Waited a long time for this |
| Description: |
Train 205 rolls across the Chemung River just after the sun dipped too low to light up the train. My friend Sam Botts and I had stood on the Main St bridge for about an hour anticipating a 13T with some kind of off line power. We were a little surprised when 205 showed. It was really cold that day-low 20s-and now almost dark. We called it quits after this. Thats railfanning!! |
