Ruin and rubble
Title:  Ruin and rubble
Description:  41T is ready to go as it sits next to the rubble from the set out tracks that once adjoined the DLW station. The NRHS equipment was moved at the time the new ballpark was built, and some of the debris still remains a dozen years later.

Dark units over the river
Title:  Dark units over the river
Description:  41T gets its all black consist underway across the Chenango River on a gloomy afternoon. The conditions will improve markedly by the time the train reaches Owego. At this time, it was common to see IC units on this train, mostly SD 40's, but occasionally SD 70's would show. I think I've seen more IC power on the Southern Tier than on the IC itself.

Making hay while the sun shines
Title:  Making hay while the sun shines
Description:  Or in this case, cutting down the corn stalks. The heavy overcast at Binghamton has yielded to bright sun at Miller Beach Rd, as 41T rolls its 62 cars west past a grain wagon that carries the colors of a now vanquished granger road.

12T on a typical Tier day
Title:  12T on a typical Tier day
Description:  12T crosses the Chenango River on a typically bright Binghamton day. Power is even dark, and not the usual CN units, though the trailing unit is a surprise for anyone expecting a solid set of NS black.

Title:  Scenic 12T
Description:  NS 6649 leads 12T over Nanticoke Creek just west of Endicott. Note the "GSF" sublettering on the cab. This is a Southern practice carried over on by NS, where the power was lettered for subidiaries. GSF is for Southern subsidiary Georgia Southern & Florida.

Power to head south
Title:  Power to head south
Description:  RPPY and PYRP ran with a mix of CSX and NS power south of Binghamton, though it was usually one or the other, and rarely mixed. This time its NS power, a representative example seen here at the fuel rack. Where else but Binghamton could you find EMD, GE, and Alco all coupled to each other??

NYK stacks
Title:  NYK stacks
Description:  One of the several double stack train that NYSW ran was for NYK. Trains were symbolled NY 7 west and NY 8 east. This is NY 8 coming into East Binghamton on track 3 from Buffalo. It will get a crew change, and likely add cars for the Southern Division here. Once that is complete, it will back out through BD onto the Tier for the trip east.

NYSW cars
Title:  NYSW cars
Description:  Mostly H 10 was a Gang Mills based train that primarily handled interchange to the NYSW at Binghamton, though it would also carry ca}s fRr CP as well, though there was not much of that traffic. We see it heading past the hot box/dragger/ACI reader as it approaches Page Av in Endicott.

Working uphill
Title:  Working uphill
Description:  Train 168 works hard behind an ex Conrail SD 50 and a GE as it rolls a mix of 107 TOFC cars and stack platforms toward Belden tunnel. This was not an uncommon train length for this move. Eventually, it was split into two trains, the added schedules being 22K/23K, running to Ayer, with 205/206 running to a new facility at Mechanicville on the site of the old B&M yard there.
