Passing the signal
Title:  Passing the signal
Description:  KCS relocated the automatics from about a half mile north to a position right at the crossing here, making for a good "hardware" shot. The 120 car oil train passes behind CP and NS units.

Waiting
Title:  Waiting
Description:  The oil train has pulled up by the Adair County barn, holding out of the siding at Stilwell, waiting on a meet with a northbould. Stopping here will keep the train from blocking several busy crossings on the siding, as well as setting the traffic lights on adjacent US 59 to flashing red. Hell be here, as it always seems to work out, til the light goes.

Last of the sun
Title:  Last of the sun
Description:  An 115 car empty oil train catches the last rays as it passes through Gravette. Too bad this didnt happen two hours earlier. After this, I caught a southbound grain train, which met a northbound at Siloam. I passed on a southbound coil steel train at Gentry while chasing this one. Could have had all of them in good light.

Title:  Running north

Last light
Title:  Last light
Description:  The 262 was really dragging, its 127 cars heavily loaded, and wasnt making good time. I had hoped to get some photos all the way back to Siloam, or at least Gentry, but the light was going fast. I was able to grab a shot just south of Decatur near the MP 218.4 detector just before the shadows took over.

Now we start back
Title:  Now we start back
Description:  One of the ideal situations is getting a train heading out, then after a good chase, getting one heading home. The trip to Noel is an easy one for this, and given the daylight left in the day, a chase to Noel was perfect, though it was slow going for this 127 car train with no DPU, seen here at Kingshighway at Butler Creek with an eastern visitor

Almost caught him
Title:  Almost caught him
Description:  I heard a horn from a southbound, and took off. Usually I can beat the trains to Westville if I keep a reasonable, but quick pace down Ark 59 and over on US 62. Didnt quite get to move as fast as I would have liked, and wound up not having enough time to get ahead and set up, so got this shot of the head end crossing US 62. Turned out, this was enough, as there was only the one unit leading. The rest of the train would be interesting, though, as well see.

Title:  Breakfast treat
Description:  We were headed to breakfast one morning last week, and got up into town to find this empty northbound train rolling through, with a whopping six units. We got around it, beating it to Gentry. MOW was working on the main, so he was routed through the siding, which helped our chase.

Waiting
Title:  Waiting
Description:  We were coming back from Springdale, and as I took the ramp to Ark 59 south, I saw a coal train pulling slowly into the siding. Must be a meet imminent. I dropped my wife and our stuff at home, and came back out. The meet wasnt quite imminent, and it was about 15 minutes before I heard some chatter on the radio, and then a horn to the south. The empty TXUX train was now approaching Lincoln Av, where we see him stretched out into the distance with 126 cars.

Another surprise
Title:  Another surprise
Description:  We went back to Noel, thinking wed get one more shot of the northbound, but he was playing with the power, and swe didnt stay, since it was now getting toward 1800, and dinner was calling. When we got down to Gravette, we came up beside this southbound grain move. He had not talked to the 4701 north when we were at Noel, and we werent able to see it through the trees, so we had no idea of its existence. We caught up at Decatur, here rolling past the stuffed and mounted F 7, a single unit leading 100 cars. There are DPUs, as well see shortly.
