Title:  Sunlit face
Description:  A 77 car grain train rolls out of the shadows and into the light, the sun illuminating the nose of its KCSM leader as it rolls over the top of the small grade south of Decatur.

Corn fed
Title:  Corn fed
Description:  Several steer watch as a southbound grain train rolls past their grazing land north of Westville. Bet theyre wishing they had some of that!!

Didnt catch him
Title:  Didnt catch him
Description:  After losing the race to the Davidson Rd crossing, I waited for the train, then took off, hoping hed keep his reduced pace-the detector just south of Davidson Rd said 16 MPH-but it was not to be. I got this grab shot of the DPUs as they crossed Country Club Rd. A lot of hustle would be needed to catch him at Westville, and a full bladder made the decision to call off the chase here. Id be back out a little later to get a southbound grain train.

Last light
Title:  Last light
Description:  While the time between September and April has the best lighting, with the low sun angle, it also has some short days from November to February. That makes for some shots that just miss being nicely lit, like this shot of Q KCNL at Gravette. Missed it by that much, in the words of Maxwell Smart. Today's effort has 48 freight, 4 stack platforms, 10 auto racks, and 12 articulated auto racks.

Pretty spot
Title:  Pretty spot
Description:  This location, where the KCS crosses Kings Highway at the far south end of Noel, is a scenic spot thats easy to reach. Climbing over the broken up concrete and downed trees that are along the creek is a bit of a challenge, especially if youre intent on chasing south, as well see in the next shot. The northbound grain train Id been chasing went in the siding here to meet this train.

Reflections
Title:  Reflections
Description:  If the water level is good, and its not moving too fast, this is a great spot for a reflection shot, as the southbound Q train shows here, its power mirrored in the slow moving stream.

This is what happens
Title:  This is what happens
Description:  When you have too many obstacles to get past from your previous location, and cant get a good lead on the train. This was an out the window grab shot of the southbound Q train as it approached the Ark 59 overpass just north of Sulphur Springs. Its a much nicer shot if youre standing on the bridge!!

Past the Cobb mill
Title:  Past the Cobb mill
Description:  A quick turn and burn, and I beat the train, slowing for the switch at North Siloam, and I was able to get the train passing the Cobb feed mill in fading light, just catching the last sun.

Why the 181 is in the siding
Title:  Why the 181 is in the siding
Description:  I went to the crossing on Mt Olive Rd, north of Dorsey siding, to wait for the meet. I wasnt to be disappointed; the southbound showed in five minutes, a grain train behind a UP/KCS power set. Hes passing MP 213 with 93 cars.

Took a bit
Title:  Took a bit
Description:  Theres a short, but stiff grade coming up into Decatur that usually slows a heavy unit train, such as this one. He must have been inspired, as I usually catch them by Y City Rd, that we saw earlier. It was not to be. I went all the way down to Floyd Moore Rd before I caught him. The grain train rounds a curve along Ark 59 approaching Gentry

Climbing up
Title:  Climbing up
Description:  The grain train makes its way uphill into Davidson Rd, passing the large trackside tree, and an oblivious horse in the adjacent pasture.
