Ex CNJ power |
Description: |
A pair of ex CNJ units readies for the evening rush at Harrison. The heritage is obvious on the trailing unit, CR 5679, as it still carries the CNJ "toothpaste" scheme. The lead unit is not as obvious-you have to look at the end of the long hood to see the squared off section housing the steam generator to see it's a former CNJ GP7P. |

Two units to Phillipsburg |
Description: |
NJ Transit continued running two rush hour trains to Phillipsburg NJ, as well as a mid day run, until 1983. Here one of the rush hour trains is ready to go from Newark Penn Station behind a GP7P-note the squared off end on the long hood of the lead unit-and a GP40P. NJ Transit adopted the paint scheme used on the EL U34CHs until it came up with the "disco" scheme in the mid 80s. Many of the fans thought this was an elegant paint scheme, and that the new scheme was not an improvement. |
