Album Info:A lot of intermodal freight has gone to containers, and trailers are not seen as much, though I have included them here. International freight has been shipped in them since the 1960's, and there has been a growing trend over the last 30 years toward them in domestic freight as well. JB Hunt got into them early-I pulled a lot of them as a driver there in the 90's, and they already had a fleet of 15,000 in 1995 when I started there. They now have something like 75,000. Others have joined that club as well, and seeing Swift, Schneider, C R England, Fed Ex, etc, containers are common. I have made an effort to get photos, which are here. Modelers, feel free to use these in your modeling efforts.

Description:  A number of trucking companies have embraced intermodal, first the big guys, JB Hunt, which got involved in a big way in 1990, and now has almost 100,000 containers, as well as Schneider National, which also has many thousands. Later on, some others joined, among them Swift and Wal Mart, and even Amazon, which is making a big investment in COFC, judging by a recent trip to the Transconn in New Mexico. Even some of the smaller companies are now going intermodal, witness this Bison container riding n CPKC train 181 at Anderson MO.

Description:  Typically, you dont see domestic containers mated with steamship line boxes-the widths are different, 96" for ocean going, 102" mostly, for domestic, though ocean going boxes are generally 20 or 40 foot.
