Blue Skies
Title:  Blue Skies
Description:  Caught this southbound waiting at McElhany while on our way to Joplin. The framing catches the blue skies and white clouds that make for a Kodachrome(Kodachrome?? Whats that??) day.

Same sky, different angle
Title:  Same sky, different angle
Description:  Funny how changing the orientation will make such a difference. More train, more sky, still a good photo in a classic pose.

Just missed
Title:  Just missed
Description:  I had chased a northbound to Noel, choosing to shoot him at the Kings Highway low water crossing. As soon as I go that shot, I beat it into town, since he was slowing for a meet. I didnt get there quite fast enough, as this southbound was just about on the MO 90 crossing as I pulled up. I was able to get this going away shot.

Low water crossing
Title:  Low water crossing
Description:  This northbound Q train rolls along Butler Creek, crossing Kings Highway. This past spring, the road here was almost impassible due to water over the road, and was closed for a while. Now wed pay for rain.

Under the rocks
Title:  Under the rocks
Description:  The famous bluff that is the background for many KCS publicity photos also works for northbounds, though not quite as well. An empty AEPX train rolls north under the rocks.

Big picture
Title:  Big picture

Dont shoot this much
Title:  Dont shoot this much
Description:  The view of the Elk River bridge here at Ginger Blue is much more appealing from the opposite side, with a wide view of the river. That scene was done in a night photo that appeared as the main shot in a piece on places to see the KCS in the March 2022 issue of Trains. This shot from the opposite side is also appealing.

Along the road
Title:  Along the road
Description:  Twice in two weeks, we headed north to see what we could find; twice we stopped at Caseys in Anderson for a short break, only to have a southbound Q train come by while we were there. Same story, caught him along MO 59 south of Anderson, which is a stunningly good view of a train going south, and also north as you get toward sunset. Southbound Q train, and the chase is on. We followed him to Watts.

Over the bridge
Title:  Over the bridge
Description:  The Q train rolls over the Elk River bridge, once again from the "wrong" side. It will be a little farther into the year before I can get the river side this time of day. Maybe KCS will run the train later....
