On the creek |
Description: |
The DPU crosses Baron Creek, in another shot taken from the car window. I love driving the Dodge, but getting in and out of the low slung car quickly is now a challenge for my six foot, 240 pound body with bad ankles and stiff joints. Sometimes I yield to the effects of advancing decrepitude. Its now late enough in the year that the sun does not come around to the west side of the bridge til very late in the day, and then the shadows of twilight are taking over. |

DPUs, finally |
Description: |
I had been trying to get some good shots of the head end, and knew if I waited for the DPU at Westville, the shot at Baron was in question. After the signal shot, the only shot to do on the creek, and here at CR E 754 was the DPU. It was getting toward 1400, and I wanted to get heading back, since we had to go to Coweta OK for my grandsons football game. Notable, is the three unit set of DPU's, all BNSF. Usually there are a couple of KCS units added at Pittsburg. |

Speed sign |
Description: |
The 112 car coal train rolls past the speed sign in downtown Gravette, there to advise of the speed restriction for the hard curve under the Ark 72 bridge, and then a long downgrade into Sulphur Springs. MP 210 is in the shadow to the right of the train. |

Cleaned up |
Description: |
I liked the shot here, because there was an old switch stand, and the remnants of an old customer siding here, that gave the shot some railroad feel. KCS has been doing some work on the line. The old siding and its switch stand are now gone. I have not been up here in a couple of months, but Im guessing they did this some time in the past 60 days or so. They have also removed the switches from the non controlled siding at Siloam Springs, which I dont understand, since it was used often to drop cuts of grain cars til they were needed. |

I think I can |
Description: |
Deactur is in the middle of a 1.5% grade that crests about a mile south of the station. The coal train struggles to get up the hill, his head end peeking around the curve at Roller St as he slowly comes through town. |

Coal south |

The coal train was making decent time, and got to North Gentry quickly. I got the shot just north of the signal, a pretty basic 3/4 photo. |

Meeting the northbound |
Description: |
The coal train rolls away from me, about to pass the 261 in the siding. I went back up to Y City Rd, about three miles north, where there would be a good sun angle, hoping to get the WW II unit, but they were holding the 261. After waiting almost two hours for the coal train, it didnt look promising, and I had to get home, Next time through... |
