Buy US Savings Bonds
Description:
Conrail had a couple of units painted to encourage purchase of US Savings Bonds. One of them leads ML 440 as seen from the overpass at Hunt, just east of the Portage Bridge. The signal alongside the train was a semaphore til a couple of years earlier; up til then there were a pair of them here. When track 2 was lifted, the signal was replaced with a Type G cluster signal. The roadbed of former track 2 has been graded and ballasted to make a maintenance road.

B boats
Description:
A westbound merchandise train, probably SETO judging by the auto parts cars head out, passes Syracuse with a B40 and a B36. The Albany Division was GE Central in those days, as Selkirk was a major GE shop, with several hundred units assigned there, including all the C30-7A's. Seeing 4 axle units was common on both road and yard assignments. Amtrak is peeking around the corner, coming in for its stop.
