Pulling away |
Description: |
We had chased this westbound stack train here, where it stopped at the west end of the siding at Racine to check for a defect. Problem solved, the train slowly pulled away, the late day sun glinting off the long line of containers. |

Pseudo station |
Description: |
The folks in Pierce City, in homage to their Frisco past, built this city building to look like a train station. It makes a nice prop, even if its not part of the railroad. |

Racing |
Description: |
Actually, not hardly. The engineer had reported a problem to the dispatcher, and he was slowing for an approach signal, stopping at the other end of the siding to check something. Hed move again about 20 minutes later. |

The bells of St Marys |
Description: |
Our westbound stacker waits in the company of St Marys Catholic Church. Its prayers will be answered shortly as an eastbound comes by, allowing it to once again proceed west. |

I caught this guy at Monett, and chased him to Racine. Here he is approaching the KCS diamond in Neosho, passing the home signal at the west end of Jeff. |

Gate down |
Description: |
The crossing at the end of the siding, Lime Kiln Rd, crosses at an oblique angle, so the gate falls perpendicular to the road, and not exactly parallel to the tracks. So I caught it in this shot of the westbound passing the eastbound home signal. Oh well....this is what TRP calls "close but no cigar." |

East meets west |
Description: |
The eastbound stack meets the westbound stack in what was the station area in town, now mostly an empty lot. The eastbound is almost done with its cross country trip, the westbound just getting into the meat of it. Hell be a lot farther west in several hours. Maybe not Amarillo by morning, but maybe overnight. BNSF doesnt waste any time with these trains. |

Stacks in the desert |
Description: |
A view from the bus as we rolled west, stacks roll east through typical New Mexico scenery. The motion and bounciness of the bus don't help the sharpness, but the biggest handicap is the tinted windows, which drop the shutter speed-or f stop, depending how you're set up-dramatically. |
