Gray DPU |
Description: |
Most of the time, empty trains dont get a DPU, but some do. This northbound TXUX train had one, seen going away at Westville. |

Holding them back |
Description: |
The Heavener Sub has a roller coaster profile, hence DPUs are common. The obvious reason is to get the heavy trains over the uphill grades, but they are also important going down hill. This H train is now past Lake Frances Rd in Siloam Springs, and headed down to the Illinois River crossing just north of Watts. The dynamics will come in handy over the next three miles or so. |

Grain south |
Description: |
After the coal train chase, I went out about an hour later when I heard a horn. About 15 minutes later, this KCSM SD 70ACe came south leading a repainted GE and 96 cars of grain at Tahlequah St. |

Dinked |
Description: |
After the grain train passed me in Siloam, I took off, running Ark 59 to Summers, then US 62 west to Westville. As I approached Westville, I noticed a large cloudbank to the south and west. What the hell!?!? I dont recall anything about rain in the forecast!! By the time I got down there, I had enough time to work north of town a little ways, meeting the train at the soccer fields near the road to the cemetery. I shot him across the field-in gloom. Dinked again. |

Longest train |
Description: |
I caught this train working hard as it crossed Lake Frances Rd, and bolted for the empty lot between the Lincoln Av and Tahlequah St crossings. A few minutes later, he showed with three six axles and a switcher(in tow, I think), still moving slowly. As I usually do, I started counting cars. The final total was 210, the longest merchandise train Ive ever seen. Ive seen longer coal trains on NS in Virginia, and longer stack trains on Conrail and BNSF, but never a mixed freight of this size. The longest I can recall is 190 cars on Conrail between Buffalo and Erie. In a testament to the pulling power of AC units, this train had three six axles up front, and an ET44AH 125 cars in. |
