Wash rack train |
Description: |
The Pennsy, in their wisdom, built this loop track to allow passenger trains coming from Penn Station to enter Sunnyside yard. Along the loop track that passed under the LIRR was a washer, which cleaned the outside of the trains as they approached the yard. This one is about to get a bath prior to entering the yard. The yard itself is in the middle background, and was once the largest passenger yard in the world. |

Arrival at the yard |
Description: |
Having just come through the washer, the train seen earlier is now rolling into the east end of Sunnyside, and will pull through so it can be serviced. The E 60 will go to the motor pit, once home to the classic GG 1. |
