Lucky catch
Title:  Lucky catch
Description:  Some days you live right...wed gone to the local rock and gem show at the Siloam Springs armory. As we came out, I could hear a northbound takikng the siding for a meet. We went up to Tahlequah St to get the southbound, and hopefully the meet. As we crossed the tracks at Lincoln St, there was another fan. This is unusual. I can count on my fingers the fans I see chasing this line, so something was up. What was up was this southbound oil train, led by the Support the Troops unit.

Straight for us
Title:  Straight for us
Description:  I beat feet down to Cave Springs, beating the train there handily. Its 15 or so road miles from Stilwell via SR 100 and a county road to the tracks, but only about 10 for the tracks. The railroad does some winding around in the hills and dales, so if you dont waste any time, you can get this shot of the southbound stretched out on the main, about to pass the southbound home signals.

Just barely
Title:  Just barely
Description:  As I was about to take off, I was again waylaid by another slowpoke. It was like the Truman Show, when he decides he wants to leave town, all the traffic comes out. This day, the obstructors were all in league against me. This guy was going about 45-the road is 55 MPH-and I passed him as soon as I had a clear shot. Now ahead of the train, I got him rolling around the big curve approaching Bunch.

Barely beat him
Title:  Barely beat him
Description:  After shooting the train at Siloam, we stopped by the house to grab drinks and a pit stop, and off we went. For some reason, a lot of people think running 10 MPH under the speed limit on a dry day with little traffic is just fine. I found one of them on the way to Summers on Ark 59. Usually I can beat a train to Westbville, but not when some bonehead is going 45 MPH on a road that has a lot of curves and few passing zones. The train was on the crossing when we got there, and I beat it to Baron, getting this somewhat shady photo on the Barren Fork Creek bridge.

A little hustle
Title:  A little hustle
Description:  After getting the shot on Barren Fork, I hustled down to the next county road crossing, and shot the oil train as he approached the crossing there. Finally ahead!!

SR 51
Title:  SR 51
Description:  The dispatcher had told the oil train hed meet the 181 at Stilwell. The 181 was already waiting in the siding when we got there, so we set up where we could shoot the meet. Were in a parking lot off US 59 as the action unfolds.

Face to face
Title:  Face to face
Description:  The Support the Troops unit faces off with the Belle leading the 181. I wanted to get a broadside shot of the two units; unfortunately, they met witha pole partly blocking the view. So it goes...

Station and a pole
Title:  Station and a pole
Description:  The distance from the meet to the station wasnt quite far enough for me to get a good lead on the train, but I did manage to get a shot off as it passed the station-and a pesky light pole
