FA in an unlikely position |
Description: |
LIRRs FAs were non powered-their prime movers were wired to provide train heat and light, with no power going to any tractive effort. It was unusual to see them uncoupled, except in the yard, as we see here at Morris Park |

Oyster Bay train |
Description: |
One of the prettier areas on the north shore was Locust Valley on the Oyster Bay Branch. This train has just left the station and is rolling for Mill Neck and the end of the trip at Oyster Bay. The building on the left was once Locust tower, now a substation for the Nassau County PD 6th Precinct. |

The off season version of 4012 didnt have parlors, and was a bit shorter than the summertime trains. Here it is at Bellerose on a rainy day. No one is headed for the beach on this train. |

Taking the curve |
Description: |
After leaving the Main Line, the Oyster Bay branch takes a sharp curve to head north, as this train is doing, about to cross first Willis Av then 2nd St. We see some Mineola landmarks in this shot: Nassau tower, behind the second car, which controls the junction as well as a set of crossovers west of the station; to the tower's left, the power house, now abandoned, for the electrification. |
